1991 DE-O-WAIN-STA Theme 1951 marks the 26th year of the publication of Rome Free Academy s yearbook, the De-O-Wain-Sta. The name, De-O-Wain-Sta, was derived from the Oneida Indians’ words for “the carrying place,’ which means the place where canoes were carried from one stream to another. Their canoes were carried from the Mohawk River to Wood Creek which passed through the center of Rome in the general location of what is now Dominick Street. The theme which we have chosen for this year is Ma and Pa of R.F.A.., who symbolize the backwoods people who lived during the early history of Rome.
