ffffemdwa M :Ze Homecoming, Spirit Week, Ap- preciate Life Week, the fifties week and dance don't just magically pop-up . Student Council plans, publicizes, and performs the necessary tasks in order to make these and many other activities successful. The council consists of the executive board-the president and vice-president, fboth elected in january by the student bodyi, five committee chairpersons, two secretar- ies, and a treasurer. All together the number of representatives and officers totals 107. With this large amount of people, some might assume that tasks are completed swiftly and effectively, but that assumption is not always correct. Only about two-thirds of these members are productive. lt's really hard to get a project off the ground when some people won't co-operate , stated Vice-President Nancy Stearns. However, she added that new attendance policies are being effected in order to sift-out these unproduc- tive members. Despite these difficulties, Student Council produced one of the most spirit-filled and pride-inducing homecoming festivities ever. The stimulus resulted from a joint effort from homecoming chairpersons, Linda Garrity and lan Lindabauer. Another fantastic achievement, the Appreciate Life Week, occurred in November. The communications committee, headed by Tom Choice, enacted this new idea. Each day of the week was set aside for appreciating a particular group of people. Suckers were sold to give to friends, teachers received apples, and on I Appreciate the Opposite Sex Day, carnations were delivered. Different flowers had different connotations ffor example: a blue Carnation was for a friend, red for red-hot lovers, and white for anony- mousl. Other new programs included Easter Week fentitled Hopping through the Meadowsl, a Spring Spirit Week, and reading Student Council announcements during homeroom.
