The radio isn't the only place the sounds of Beethoven, The Beatles and Elton john can be heard. The RMHS Marching Band fthe Concert and Symphonic Bands combinedj provided this entertain- ment to the student body at football games and festivals. Among the many festivals that the Marching Band attended the most enjoyable day was spent at Northwestern University's Annual Band day. There, 5,000 band students covered the football field and performed their own song selections. This year's jazz Band has added many new awards to its trophy case. They took a second in class triple A of the Western lllinois jazz Festival and took a first place in sight reading at the Oaklawn jazz Festival. Individual members of the jazz Band also captured prestigious honors. Four musicians from the jazz Band were chosen to play in the All-Star Band. The musicians included Rod jay on drums, Dave Hill on trumpet, Nick Betzold on guitar and Dave Mester on trombone. Dave Mester also won an outstanding Soloist Award at the Oaklown Festival. The Band year concluded with an exciting trip to California. Stops included San Francisco and Los Angeles, with performances at Magic Mountain, The Queen Mary, and Disneyland.
