Senior Ted Theofanous was the most valuable player of the year. He was the team's leading scorer and was responsible for nine goals. These included all three goals scored in the three to two victory over St. Viator. Ted also provided leadership on the field, and was named team captain in ten games. 1 54 l 1 1 BELL' - E EZ 355080 IN STATE Twinkling eyes and long awaited grins covered the faces of the players as the team victory was announced. RMHS's first archer team topped off the season by winning first place in conference and district, and moving on to second place in state. Confidence was the key which opened the door to the team's vic- tory. The only thing the players needed to do was to prove themselves. With the help of their coach Ken Bates and the enthusiasm of the students, that's exactly what they did. With most of the juniors retur- ning next year, including state champ Maria Recker, there is no doubt that the Mustangs will win first place in state next season. State champ Maria Recker hopes to move on to the Olympics. These are things that Rolling Meadows' fans saw and heard many times this season. So many times, in fact, that the team behind it all, the Mustangs, had their most successful season ever, advancing to the State Regional playoffs where they lost to a fired-up Palatine team 55 to 51. The Mustangs compiled the best varsity record in RMHS history, with a 15 win, 10 loss record. Led by senior Kevin Kiley and junior Kent Walker, with 344 and 336 points respectively, the Mustangs dominated the Mid Suburban League with a conference record of 11 and 1. The Varsity also played some tough ball in other places, taking home the second-place trophy in the Fenton Thanksgiving Tournament. While the Mustangs as a team set the record for the best season with 15 wins and 10 losses, several individuals also set records. These included: most recoveries in a season C543 by senior Bob Rose, most points in a game 1287 by Kevin Kiley, and best free throw percentage in a season C791 by Glenn Brettner. While the Varsity Mustangs were gobbling up their opponents, the other levels didn't fare quite so well. The junior Varsity team had ay 4 and 11 record, while the Sophs finished strong and ended the season at 6 and 14. The three Freshmen Teams combined for a 17 and 23 record. While this was a good year, it was only a start for the future. Hopefully Rolling Meadows can now establish a winning basketball tradition and have all the students behind us, said Coach Weinberg. After only two years as head coach, Mr. Bill Weinberg led the Varsity team to their best SCBSOU GVSF. Right: By an unanimous vote, junior Kent Walker was made an all conference player.
