gmail T egdlslea At 9:00 the morning of the eighteenth, members of the Christmas Ball Committee began arriving at school. The committee, consisting of seniors, was headed by lan Lindabauer and Linda Ciarrity. Their goal: that the Christmas Ball would set a precgedentsfor future senior classes. y These seniors promptly began mgakinggmoregyggthan one thousand finger sandwiches with thelaid oflifvlr. Drolet, lformer professional caterer and father of a Rolling Meadows seniorl.-Around onefo'clock, with the completion of the last hors d'oeuvre, the committee began transforming the gymnasium into a ballroom of Starlight and Snowflakes for that was this year's dance theme. The entire afternoon was spent decorating, and when the first couples passed through the archway of red streamers, they feasted their eyes on seven large trays of homemade cookies, a huge bowl of sherbet- fruit punch, and a multitude of finger sandwiches and tiny cracker hor d'oeuvres. A mirrored globe sent reflections of light twirling across the dance floor and over the shining, foil stars and glittering, white snowflakes. The stage was a glowing fire place setting with five stockings - each filled with a gift. Wrapped boxes served as the centerpieces for each table. As the time of coronation grew near, the couples rose from their tables, and dance partners thronged around the stage. The lights were dimmed and only the stage was illuminated. Silence permeated the crowd, as the Master of Ceremonies, lerry Green, began speaking. When announcing the princessesand queen of the Ball, jerry flipped down the piece of paper that had covered the winners' names. The girls' names had been embroidered' on the stockings by theimother of senior lack Anderson. Terri Breitbeil was crowned queen, and she and each princess receivedthe gift that was in her stocking. Even the nominees who had not been chosen were given a red rose. g g All too soon the dance came to an end, libut as leach of the couples left they carried the bid with them.
