The miracle began through the work of Annii Sullivan, a patient woman who rarely receives the credit that is due, not only to Helen, but to herself as well. During the rehearsals l was really able to feel the frustrations and triumphs that Annie had to over- come, stated junior Mary Monroe tAnnie Sullivan.i Despite many difficulties, the persevering Annie managed to teach the Helen Keller whom we all ad mire. Behind Helen were her parents, the Captain, and Mrs. Keller tDennis Nykiel and Karen McRanni, both sought to protect and cuddle Helen. They soon found that babying their daughter would only stifle Helen's obvious intelligence. The Miracle Worker was not entirely serious though. Comic relief was provided by the black housekeeper, iNora Polaceki and Helen's brother, tKevin Cuthbert.i The most outstanding performance, however, was by Maureen Donehey as Helen Keller. Maureen undertook the difficult task of portraying a blind girl, and did an excellent job, too. Never to be forgotten are the many compliments Maureen received on her success, along with the inevitable batterings and the bruises which went along with the part. The student council begins planning the homecoming festivities during the previous spring. Athletic teams practice Monday through Friday, even during vacations. Performers, such as orchesis, and pom-pons, spend many hours perfecting their acts. Students spend most of their time in classes, often working on simulations like the Marriage Game in sociology. Most important, though, are the people and especially the friends that are met in school. From homecoming to prom-it's been a slice!
