The Debate Team had a shaky beginning with only three experienced debaters having any real success, however the novice team practiced hard and began to expedencesuccew. Wazaead aafacfozoz e? lf you'd like some first-hand information on what it is like to be a doctor or a nurse, then the Medical Careers club is for you. Club members practice basic first aid and C.P.R. iCardio-Pulmonary Resuscitationl. They organized a local blood drive and visited such places as Cook County Hospital, the University of Illinois, the Rehabilitation center in Chicago and the Children's Memorial Hospital. Spirited club members also entered the Homecoming parade. They won the award for the most original entry. The members where dressed up as big syringes, while others were pushed around in wheel chairs. C.P.R. rescuer Laura Larkner, Cleft! explains to Lisa Torbert the proper way to handle a cardiac patient. l 'x Q'- Marie Elbe lleftl practices her first aid abilities on patient and member, Lisa Herrmann. Flourishes of purple and white, and the sprite bubbly spirit displayed by the Pom Pon squad delighted the audience at each performance. Songs such as Love Will Keep Us Together, When l'm Sixty-Four , and Make Your Own Sunshine, were chosen for the routines created by Mrs. Guttman, Denise Richards, and Dawn Olson. The girls dedicated their after-school hours to practicing and perfecting these routines. Pride and confidence were the end results. New uniforms, purchased especially for the basketball season, were much cooler than the heavy football uniforms. The Pep Club promoted school spirit throughout the year. To raise money, the girls held a bake sale once a month, sold chocolate bars, and helped out in the concession stand. With these funds, the girls bought large Pep Club buttons to wear at the football and basketball games, as well as the swimming, track, gymnastics, and wrestling meets. I .
