Most people would probably say the actors, the writers or even the producers. Sure, all these things contribute, but what about those people who work backstage without whom the show could never go on? The stage crew start working to build sets before most of the actors even get a chance to start rehearsing. They work after school till 7:00 or 8:00 o'clock at night, when most of the other groups have gone home. Getting recognition out on the stage doesn't matter to them, it's the spirit of knowing that they are a part of the theater. Tech Theater Director Tom Schuler, also an English teacher, has been working back stage for five years. He received a Masters Degree in Technical Theater from the University of Northern Illinois. When asked why he spends endless hours building sets, he answered, You get to know the kids more as people rather than just students and to me that's rewarding. 0 ..

Many afternoons, under the watchful eye of coach Hugh Persson, the members engage in chess games to help perfect their techniques. The team of eight, with Mark Travaglio, lack Griecci, and Tony Piazza playing first, second, and third board respectively tied for 3rd in District competition, just missing second by a few points. The team is expected to fair well in play next year with all the players returning and the addition of an incoming state-ranked freshman. Wazaead aafacfozoz e? lf you'd like some first-hand information on what it is like to be a doctor or a nurse, then the Medical Careers club is for you. Club members practice basic first aid and C.P.R. iCardio-Pulmonary Resuscitationl. They organized a local blood drive and visited such places as Cook County Hospital, the University of Illinois, the Rehabilitation center in Chicago and the Children's Memorial Hospital. Spirited club members also entered the Homecoming parade. They won the award for the most original entry. The members where dressed up as big syringes, while others were pushed around in wheel chairs. C.P.R. rescuer Laura Larkner, Cleft! explains to Lisa Torbert the proper way to handle a cardiac patient. l 'x Q'- Marie Elbe lleftl practices her first aid abilities on patient and member, Lisa Herrmann.
