We had smooth sailing for eight years. We 5! had a pause tiie eight year and gave our play, Junior Detectives, XJ and took a shore leave and visited Denver, Colorado, With Mrs. Lewis as our captain. NJ When we sailed into the sea of higher education, there were yu sixteen freshmen aboard. Earl McBride transferred to another crew for our Sophomore year. Carl Thrall transferred to the S. S. Boise City for our Jr. id year and Corinne Cannon was transferred from the S. S. Guymon Ka to take his place on our crew. Bruce Colman visited aboard the first day of that year. Dodge Wilson and Phyllis Milburn retired xl that year after only a few weeks aboard. Faye Helterbrand trans- ferred to the S. S. Hugoton just before the first semester was xl over. We had a pause that year to give our Junior Play, Bashfu1 L, Bertie , and another to give the Seniors a banquet. N., We started off this year with Dale Clinesmith aboard, but he NJ transferred back to the S. S. Coyville the second week of school. We had a pause again this year and gave our Senior play, Hob- goblin House . We also had a shore eave which we spent at Kirk- LJ wood Lodge, on the Lake of the Ozarks, Springfield, Missouri, kv Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We have had smooth sailing all the four years we spent aboard the S. S. Rolla Hi and have good captains charting the courses. We finished these years in fine shape and now Liz, Rene, Shel, Annie P. , Lynn Glen, Jon, Dee, Donyan, and Crudey are ready for our discharges. Some of the old crew are signing up for a few more years of Y service. Others have already signe contracts for a life time of Kd Happy work. Although most of the Seniors that grad- uated with the class of 1953 have left, one way or the other, the big city is still thriving. As we look in on it today we see one member ofthe Senior Class still living in Rolla. It is none other than Mrs. Gene Higgins, the former Corinne Cannon. She has just arrived home after a hard afternoon of bridge, and is preparing to get supper for her husband Gene, who will arrive shortly from their chicken ranch. By the way, the Higgins' specialize in the growing of chickens with two wishbones. Having opened her cans and spread out the cake and sandwiches which she has purchased from Clairmonts Super Market, she sits down for a minute to rest and turns on her television set. The talk at the bridge table this afternoon had been of the old class- mates of Rolla High School who graduated in the year 1953, and who and arranged a reunion by television. So she turns the dial to the reunion of the class of 1953. First, there floats across her vision a very dear friend of her girlhood days, Loeta Man- gels, who ascended to the place left vacant by Kate Smith when she deserted the radio to retire from audiences. Loeta has well filled the place, and her voice nightly thrills her hearers as she sings such songs as Too Hot To Cut The Mustardl' and Lover Come Back To Me ! Next there appears our new heavyweight champion, Donnie Dibble, Donnie knocked out the heavyweight champ in a half round last week. At the end of the first half round the referee step- ped in and stopped one of the most fierce and hard pounding fighters of the ring. The round was just one-fourth over when it was evident that Donnie would be champ. The crowd began cheer- ing and yelling. And now the world-famous inventor, Arlin Morgan, hailed as a second Edison and Marconi combined. His newest invention, a self-lighting cigarette, has made him millions and pu: his name in the nation's mouth. He is now working on a non-squirting grapefruit, which, if suc- cessful, will make him known at every breakfast table in America. And here is that beautiful young lady fnow almost 302, Shirley Thrall, who is still struggling along in college trying for another degree. Last report she had five degrees, but still doesn't have the degree she wants. The one from Junior entitled Mrs. Bressler , but it can be ex- pected just any time now. Next appears that handsome Stanley Kneller, who is now a mattress tester for the Beauty Rest Mattress Company. He was always famous for the hours he slept in school. Keep up the good work Stan you may become president ------ of the company that is. Now, who is this coming into view, none other than our old sponsor, Coach Hall. Coach is well known to everyone these days. His present basketball season is about over and if his Phillip 66 Oilers Team can win their game at Madison Square Garden tonight he has the world's basketball championship won. In his spare time Coach coaches his 5 little Hall basketball players at home. Now we see Mrs. Glenetta Cooper being escorted by her husband, Jack. The Coopers are now among the richest people in Kansas, having made several million from their wheat ranch. Glenetta is wearing a lovely ice blue low-cut evening gown, the full skirt sprinkled with dia- monds. Draped over her shoulder is a white mink cape. Both the cape and gown were designed by Glenetta. They left their darling twin boys at home with the maid Dandelion. And now a cook floats into view, Annetta Cannon, famous for her cooking--in demand for her original recipes--and author of her own authoritative cook book, How to Feed on Less Than Nothing . Annetta is also working at the new macaroni factory, making the product by stuffing the macaroni with the holes of doughnuts. Here is someone else, his face looks familiar, oh, yes, it's Bill Littell. Bill is still with the French-Foreign Legion. For the last ten years he has been in Africa making money hand 1 over hand, having a good time fighting and starting a harem of Africa's most beautiful women. Oh, well, he always wanted to be different from everyone else. And now as our reunion is about over we see our old friend Liz Presley walking daintly across the screen. It seems that Liz was at the races in Colorado Springs last week and her daddy's horse came in first. Old Fleefast certainly made all the other horses look bad. With Liz as jockey, evidently the race was in the purse before it got started. Liz has a record of being the best jockey in the U.S. Now that we have all the Seniors of the Class of 1953 together, let's all stand and sing our old school song, We're Rolla Pirates . 9 W This page is sponsored by ELKHART INSURANCE AGENCY I I I fix :i ii ' j g , ..., 1 I 5,1 if W'-A,.'
