The orchestra, composed of members of the Roll Grade and High School, is under the direction of Miss Grove. The students have played for several ball games, Christmas program, and the Farmers In- stitute. Its membership has increased this year and consists of: James Roderick, Jean Murphy, Laverne Love, Mary Jean Love, Virginia Gadbury, Bonnie Pierce, Maxine Love, Martha Troxell, Lola Tarr, Wilma Coons, Betty Abbott, John McMillan, John Robinson, James Holloway, Vivian Knox, Rozhonna Palmer, Charles Holloway, Juanita Glancy, Rachel Ross, Norman Stoner, Jess e Michael, Ralph Confer, Howard Byall, and Violet Knox. Agriculture Club This year a new unit was added to the curri- culum of the High School known as the Agriculture department. Mr. McJilton, a new member of the faculty, in conjunction with the department, organized a group of boys interested in agriculture. They met on November 50, 1939, and elected the following officers--Warren Palmer, President, Paul Adkins, Vice-President, Tom Mc Conkey, Secretary, Harold Abbott, Treasurer, Bob Whitaker, Reporter. Other members included--Robert Ducy, Bruce Byall, Elvin Collins, Glen Trosper, Paul Trosper, Joseph Niles, Oliver Furniss, and Harrold Speidel. Activities during the year included a pest killing contest won by Glen Trosper, and the organization of a basketball team. The sophomores study foods for dinner, how to set the table, and investigate various types of dishes and utensils suitable to be used in the kitchen. During the second semester a study of home nursing and child development was made. All the girls enjoy the study of Home Econom- ics, and will profit by it as much as any other sub- ject which is taught. Members of the classes are: Freshmen--Lillian Banter, Betty Dutro, Juanita Glancy, Betty Gosnell, Norma Tatman, Martha Troxell, Vonna Jean Sutton, and Martha Raber. The Sophomores include--Betty Abbott, Wilma Coons, Jean Murphy, Mary Nelson, Rozhonna Palmer, Lola Tarr, Betty Jean Vincent, and Martha Lois Younts. HI-Y Club A group of the leading boys of the Roll High School decided to organize a club that would be open to all boys in the school. It was the opin- ion of all that a Hi-Y Club was needed. The Hart- ford City Hi-Y Club came out and explained how to organize it. The Roll High School Hi5Y Club was organized February 25, 1940. The charter members elected the following boys officers of the club: William Hahn, President, Charles Holloway, Vice- President, Harold Abbott, Treasurer, Clarence Mur- phy, Secretary, and Ralph Confer, Chaplain.
