ILENE HALL, Honorary Co-Capt., post fwd. scored 536 points, played 103 quarters out of a possible 104 - honorable mention. Our most improved ball player of the year, - an average of 21 points per game - and average of 48070 of her shots from the field. Ilene 's high for the season was 47 points. She got the ball 97070 of the time in jump balls. SUSAN TJERNAGEL, Honorary Co-Capt., post gd., played 103 quarters of a possible 104 - honorable mention - our chief rebounder in the rear court, grabbed 141 rebounds. Led teammates on pass interceptions with 42. Susan was the outstanding post guard in this area. Susan did an excellent job of coordinating the defensive play in the rear court. Great team leader. PATTY WIERSON, fwd. , gd., - scored 267 points the first 14 games, last 12 played guard. 99 quarters credit - honor- able mention - The fastest moving girl on the squad. - very deceptive. Converted on 37.4070 of her shots from the field, and 60W0ofher free throws. Third high on pass interceptions with 37. Great competitor. At the guard position. Pat held outstanding forwards to their lowest total points for the season, and was 4th high in rebounds with 93. JEAN WELTHA, fwd., - scored 449 pts., played 100 quarters - honorable mention - our best free thrower, hitting on 66070 for the season, and on 37.5070 from the field. A junior with a lot of experience - missed one game this year. Anexcellentbasser, and has a good eye for the basket - fast, and very deceptive. Brilliant floor player, and a good competitor - valuable team player. JOAN WELTHA, fwd., scored 240 pts. mostly in the last 12 games, scored 69 pts. in the first 14 games - 97 quarters credit. Post forward and out forward - hit on 39.3070 of field goal attempts, and 63.7070 of her free throws - very accurate passer, and very deceptive in passing the ball into the post. Improved a great deal the last part of the season in passing, shooting and rebounding - truly a great team player. MARLENE RYAN, gd., -played 71 quarters - improved much during the season - has a lot of hustle and drive, a great competitor - starting guard in about half of the games - good floor player, and an excellent passer. BEVERLY HU.L, gd., - played 33 quarters - fine defensive player - has shown much improvement the past season - very aggressive - good passer and rebounder. CAROL ANN HOLLAND, fwd., - played 59 quarters, scored 61 pts. - possesses a great deal of natural ability - good rebounder. Is a good team player, always helping to set up screening situations with or without the ball. With additional scrap and speed she could be a problem for opposing guards. JUDY SHOLD, fwd. - played 22 quarters - best screener on the squad. Has a good eye for the basket. Has exceptional ability in judging direction of rebounds. Judy has a great desire to be a better ball player. JANET HANSON, gd. - played 65 quarters - promising freshman guard - very aggressive, anticipates next move of her opponent, and is a better than average rebounder - gained much valuable experience this past season as a fresh- man - was a starting guard in about half of the games. The team had a defensive average of CCAC 'S COMMENTS ALAN ERICKSON--Ends high school career as second highest scorer in Roland history with a 4 year total of 1170 points,excellent team player,sports writersfirstchoice forward for dream team, 4th all-state team for Des Moines Register. DAVE AMENSEN--A cluth player. If no one else could score, Dave would do it. Stopped opponents un- stoppable shooters. Good on rebounds and stalls. MARV CHRISTIAN--Proof enough that any team needs a small fast guard. His free-throw shooting was tops with an average of 66.770, He continually harassed opponents with his defensive manuevers. ALLEN SYDNES--One of the most improved players on the squad--an extremely valuable re- serveincrucialgames. GARY TJELMELAND--Good passer and shooter, helped our first team develop by giving them tough competition in practice. We'll miss his hustle and determination. OWEN ERICKSON--Led all scorers for the season until the final game against Ames--when he left the game with an injury. An outstanding starter who we'll welcome back. DEAN HILL--The boy with the springy legs,had a great year. Top rebounder-starting center. His tribulations concerning his daughter, Cornelia, in her quest to become an actress provided the plot of FAMILY CIRCLE. Cornelia was played by Faye Anne Larson. Maud Skinner, played by Karen Danielson, served as the understanding, but often harassed mother and wife of the talented Skinners. Charlie proved to be of slight romantic interest to Cornelia. Bobby Thomp- son played the part. His buddies, William, Sam, Henry and Gordon were por- trayed by Orlan Twedt, Larry Anderson, Eddie Toussaint, and Byron Egeland. Cornelia's friends, also interested in the theatre, but less avidly than Cor- nelia, were Jean Weltha as Mab, Bonita Cole as Enid, Sharon Wierson as Arny, and Jean Shold as Grace. Arlene Larson played the completely confused maid of the Skinner family, Abby. f -nt -avg The senior class on Friday, the 13th of May, presented FATHER KNOWS BEST to a full house. David Amenson portrayed the amusing but dornineering father. Susan Tjernagel was his understanding wife, Margaret. Their three children were Marcia Eggland as Betty, Marvin Christian as Bud, and Patty Wierson as the mischievous Kathy. Gary Tjelmeland played the part of Mr. Brinkworth, the insurance man.
