Under the direction of Coach Robert Looft the Rockets compiled a record of 16 wins against 4 losses. The record for the fall season was 6-2 and the record for the spring was 10-2. The Rockets tied for first in the North Story Conference and won the sectional and district titles before bowing in the first round of the sub-state to Manson. The three other losses were to Gilbert, Zearing, and Radcliffe, all of which were avenged in later games. Outstanding games of the spring season included the regular season win over I ewell, and tournament wins over Gilbert and a very tough Pilot Mound team. The Roland High track squad participated in two long distance meets during the fall track season, finishing fourth in a field of ten teams in the state mile team race at Iowa City and eighth in a field of nine teams in the state cross-country team race at Ames. The mile team was composed of Marvin Christian, Larry Sorenson, Alan Erickson, Donald Bielefeldt, Harlan Hall and Bennie Hill. Members of the cross-country team were Henry Amenson, Clark Miller and Dean Hill. Phone 56 C. B. JOHNSON GRAIN CO. Good set shot, , , J 'WK BOYS' BASKETBALL The Roland Rockets played inspired tournament ball again this year but failed to leap the last hurdle against Slater in the sub-state finals. This marks the first time in four years that the Rockets were not a part of the State Finals. Roland had previously beaten Slater twice during the season, but the Hawks finally found the formula for stop- ping the Norwegians. For the season Roland won 28 and lost only 3, one each to Nevada, Rodman, and Slater. With four of six regulars graduated, the squad floundered about early in the season searching for leadership. As the season progressed, the game leaders appeared to be Alan Erickson, Harlan Hall, Norman Hanson, Owen Erickson, and Marvin Christian. Jerry Jensen came through several times with clutch performances which helped win several games. The squad showed tremendous drive and spirit, especially against the tough opponents. Their philosophy seemed to be 'fthe tougher they are the better we play. For the seventh straight year the boys won the North Story Conference Champ- ionship, the Story County Tournament Championship, and the Sectional and District Championships. Top scorers were Alan and Owen Erickson who scored 452 and 426 points, res - pectively. Harlan Hall was third with 309 points and was the top rebounder with a total of 4ll. Alan Erickson was the most accurate shooter. He made 46.71 of his shots. The last 13 games he averaged 621. The team averaged 59.1 points per game and held their opponents to 41.2 points per game. As a team they made 37.01 of their field attempts and 53.61 of their gift shots. The most exciting games were the overtime thriller with Randall, the 3 point loss to Nevada, and the sub-state win over Early. The players and fans are to be commended on their good behavior and their ability to accept defeat graciously. Roland's team and fans are still champions! Mr. Gregory Long is a wealthy old man who lives with lus two attendants in a once, handsome, but now dilapidated old mansion. His great-niece, Sylvia Long, whom he has never seen, arrives one night to pay him a visit. With her are her aunt, a funny old maid, her girl friend, and her fiance. He has brought them along on a businessetrip he is making and will pick them up ln a few days on his return. The three women soon discover tlnt there is a sinister and terrifying atmosphere about the place but they can't find out what it is all about or who is at the bottom of lt. A night of terror follows. A queer green light pervades the room. Two masked men break in and prowl aronmd the house. When morning comes their anxiety increases. They seem to be caught ln a web of circumstances and can't get out. Who is the man who shot at Aunt Tessie? Who threw Sylvia into the well? Who threw the message down from the old tower on top of the house? Who is the man with only three fingers on his hand?
