THE RANGER Presented by THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1964-65 Roland High School STAFF MEMBERS Editors--Diana Carter, Jeannie Boevers Subscription Manager--Beverly Woodrome Advertising Manager--Bill Henson, Linda Sue Wilson, Gail Redden, Norma Osborne Typists--Linda Sue Wilson, Gail Redden Sports and FFA--Tony Kirk. Eugene Kirk We, the Senior Class, are dedicating the 1965 Ranger to Mrs. Mildred Smalley. She came to Roland High School in 1931 and through the years has enhanced the lives of hundreds of students by being their teacher, friend, and counselor. Her gifts to them were not transit ones-- The little unremembered things of life. But rather she led them with a strength Which was sufficient over every strife. Her gifts to them were not transit ones— But memories that linger through the years; She did inspire in them unfailing trust To learn a higher joy beyond life's tears. C.J. ADMINISTRATION To Seniors of 1965-- As a class you are above average in ability and life potential. As such you are charged with more than your share of lifes' responsibilities. With each talent and opportunity goes an equal and corresponding duty to your fellows-- I firmly believe that some day we will literally have Peace on Earth and Good Will Toward Men. But to achieve this-- —More than half of us must give more value than the pay we receive to offset those who expect to receive more than they earn. In which group will you and I be found? —More than half of us must try to right the wrongs’ of others, defend the oppressed, uplift the fallen, and encourage the down cast; will you and 1 be found among this group? Yes, “Peace on Earth” will result from the day by day deeds of you and me. With fullest blessings upon each of you, t}U yU£ JAMES HUMPHREY Board of Education WARREN G. HARVELL Member W. E. Christmas Play 1964 Senior Play Practice 1965 Roland High School has maintained a good music department for many years. The music stu- dents have won several awards; they present an annual Christmas program; they add variety to Jun- ior and Senior plays, to banquets, and to our Hallowe’en Carnivals. Our fine arts department was expanded in 1963 to include Art and in 1964 to include World Liter- ature. Dramatics, and Music Fundamentals. The introductory art course includes a study and practice of lettering, charcoal drawing, and tempra paint- ing, with emphasis on good proportion, line, and color. The world literature class is a study of the great periods and types of literature, the history of the English language, and special research on individual authors, poems, and prose. In dramatics the student experiments with make-up, performs before audiences, and studies types of drama from different eras. Home Economics Classes These girls are admiring the new Caloric gas ranges that were given to us by Ft. Smith Gas Co. The company will replace these every two years without charge. The meat probe and ultra- ray broiler are the newest features of the Caloric range. Homemaking girls are busy construct- ing garments in their first year cloth- ing class. Typing Class Typing students of Roland High School are discovering the value and pleasure of typing for personal use as well as preparing themselves for future business careers. Student Council After a hot political race these eight students were elected to run our student body. Library Staff Many of our students volunteer to help fellow classmates check out books and keep the library in order. Music Fundamentals Our new course teaches melody, harmony, and rhythm, the three basic fundamentals which lead to better appreciation of music. We, the Ranger Editors and Staff Members, wish to express our thanks and appreciation to the teachers and students who have helped us compile this yearbook. This yearbook would not have been possible without the tolerance and competent supervision of Mrs. Clara D. Jones. 1965 Roland Rangerettes FIRST ROW: CAROLYN DAVIS.
