At the Christmas program the High School Chorus of fifty-two voices, under the direction of Mrs. Westerfield, again made an impressive candlelight procession, closing with Silent Night. A quartet added a humorous note with All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth . During intermissions at the Senior and Junior Plays, chorus members presented special numbers. A highlight of the seasonal events was participation in the Music Festival in Medford on the 24th and 25th of March. The Rogue River High School Band is a very active organization taking part in practically all school programs. In addition to playing at both the Junior and Senior plays they turned out in uniform for football and basketball games. After going to Medford to play for the county B basketball tournament and to Central Point to furnish music for the District playoff, they finished the sport season by treking across the state to play at the state tournament in Union, Oregon. Representatives of the band participated in the massed band at Southern Oregon Music Festival in Medford. Several of the bandsmen were organized into a swing band, the ''Star-lighters'', which played for school and community dances. On March 29th Gene Davison and Mrs. Westerfield attended the Music Educators' Northwest Conference in Portland where Gene was a member of the All-Northwest Band of 250 players from five western states. The band finished the year polishing up their numbers for the Spring Concert on April 29th and Commencement.

This time the mentors of RO-HI-AN were determined to have a printed yearbook with padded covers. To this end Joan Ford and Gwynne Nichols trudged many sidewalks to collect a large amount of advertising in order to meet the extra expense. Of special note is the art work of Frances Nixon on the division pages and the cartooning of Bob Nixon. They enabled the book to be individualistic. Everyone had a hand in the inner workings with Janice, Marilyn and John writing copy, Neal, Friedel, Charles, Durwood and Mary arranging pages, Rita typing and Gene doing picture pages. Betty and Gwynne set up the dummy for all to work from. Journalism Staff Morilyn Geier, Altha LeRoy—Instructor, Elsie Lee, Marceline Evans, Velma Bryant— Editor, Jim McBee, June Hennicke, Shirley Howell, Lee Smith, Donna Taylor, Joy Starr. Standing in background: Iris Gochanour, Patricia Kile. The Rogue Record successfully tried two innovations this year. For their Christmas issue the staff mimeographed the paper in three colors of ink which involved a complicated procedure. During the year the paper sponsored a crossword puzzle contest which proved very popular. The journalism class gave the winners, the sophomores, a wiener roast in Grants Pass Park as a prize.
