SENIOR CLASS HISTORY On a day in oeptember, ’42, seventeen green and untried freshmen entered the portals of Rogue Aiver high school. Claes officers of t is first year were: President, Don Dev- ine; Vice-president, Virginia Blakely; Secretary-treasurer, Lucretia Bunce; Advisor, R. Toner. During the year Russel Stubblefield, Virginia, and Norma Blakely dropped out. This year the Girls Athletic Association was organized, under the supervision of Mrs. Myrtle McGregory. The next fall thirteen of la t years freshmen were back, eager to start the year as sophomores. 0n the opening day we found th -t we had one new member in the class, who was Alice McMerrick, Class officers for this term were: Presid ent, Lucretia Bunce; Vice-president, Don Dick; Secretary-treasurer, Nancy Burkett; Advisor, Miss McClusky. The class produced a one act play, Elmer and the Lovebug, which was presented in assembley. This was also the first year that the school Carnival, which has since become an annual event, was presented. Then the fall of ’44, and at last we were Juniors. We now had a total of nineteen members. With the entrance of Sylvia Hrankay, Betty Jensen, Doug Bennett, and Dick Fisher it reached a total of twenty-three, the largest our class had ever been. Delbert Lee enlisted in the Navy in Jan. and Mr. N. Toner, Class advisor, was drafted. Officers elected for this term were: - resident, Phil Carlile; Vice-president, Donna Wentling; Secretary-treasurer, Pat Winters; 4dvisor, Mr. R. Toner, and later, Mrs. Myrtle McGregory. The class play, Her Emergency Hus and, under the direction of Mrs. Ethel Krauss, was presented in April. Next on the schedule was the annual school Carnival. After a hard-fought contest our candidate. Donna Wentling, was ele ®‘LcS[ni!®1 This was an outstanding year for Rogue River Hi in sport The basketball team won the District 5B championship, and the baseball team won the county championship. Last came the big social event of the year, the Junior-Senior banquet, given in honor of the graduating class by the Juniors. It was held at the Cave Shop in Grants Pass. Then it was late September, '45, and finally the long awaited day when we would have reached the high estate of Seniors had come. Our class was larger than at any previous time in our high school career, with twenty-thr e members, twelve of them new students. Class Officers were: President, ick Fisher; Vice-president, Phil Carlile; Secretary-treas, Pat Winters; Advisor, Miss Clark and Mrs. Stockman. To the social life of the school off to a good Senior Class soonsored a dance for the entire after school started. The basketball team won the District 5B championship for the second consecutive year right to enter the state tourney. With the return of peac it was ■ossible to publish a Ro-Hi-An for the f four years. Skip Day , the traditional privilege of Seniors was taken the last week in April.
