URCIIESTBA Hli WILL ROGERS Junior High School orchestra has appeared several times on programs since last Septemher, in 19-12. Their first lJ1'0fLI'itlllS were gixen lJ?l'l'lIll19I' l ith and 15th, playing at that time for the seventh. eighth. and ninth grade asselnhlies. Un December l5th they gave a group of numhers for the P. T. A. afternoon meeting. and appeared again for the same organization January 12th, 1943. The Southern California Nlusie Festix al which has been, in previous years. a great musical event, and has included thousands of music students from all Southern California. in orchestras. t'IlSP1lllJlf S. and soloists. could not he carried on in the same way because of war conditions. This year our Festival was a connnunity project in which only local talent from our Long Beach Schools nas presented. We had a eonihined all Junior High Orchestra made up of players from the six junior high schools. , . lhcre were also solos. quintets. and quartets en- tered. Each group from our schools displayed un- usual talent. Will Rogers presented fourteen soloists and a woodwind quintet. The String linsenihle played for the P. T. A. No- xeniher lfth. 1912. ' The newly organized Symphonetle played lor the P. T. A. March 16, l9'l3. The Syniphonette also made recordings for Miss Clillord. Nlr. Strang has done a wonderful job with our orchesrta. and has made it one ol the hest if not the hesl organizations ol' its kind in the school system.
