Mr. Jess L. Purdy Mr, Purdy has been principal of john Rogers High School for ten years. He fully understands the problems of Roger's High School students with the recent in- crease in enrollment and the crowded conditions that exist here at the schools. He has been working very closely with the faculty, architects, and contractors so that the new additions will be suited to the needs of the students and faculty. The new additions include a field house, the first in any Spokane Public school. A cafe- teria, with a seating capacity of over six hundred, and a new fine arts wing, which includes the Art Department, Home Economics, and a nursery for pre-school children. The vacancies of some present facilities make it necessary to remodel parts ofthe old building into a new study hall, a teacher's lounge, and new commercial room. On the second floor there will be a new journalism department, and a dark room. Also there will be an extension to the library, plus several new classrooms. The third floor is to receive a new Biology laboratory. Mr. William C. Sorenson Mr. W. C. Sorenson has held a variety of positions in the public school system since his graduation from Ricks College in 1930. He taught Elementary and jr. High Schools in Idaho for eleven years. Then he became principal of Emmett Elementary and Sr. High Schools for six more years. After this he was Superintendent of Payette Public Schools from july 1944 to 1950. He served as a local instructor at the University of Idaho extension classes in 1948, 49 and 50, and was Director of S.S. Workshops in 1951, 52. As a state worker he was State Curriculum Director of the State Board of Idaho. In September of 1953 he became Secondary School Curriculum Director of Spo- kane, Washington. He was promoted in 1955 to the position of Assistant Super- visor for Secondary Education, and in August 1957 he was elected Superintend- ent of Spokane Public Schools. Page 5

Some of the responsibilities of Mr. MacGown are, seeing that we have an active and effective Student Council, to supervise and organize student activities and student morale, in general he is in charge of stu- dent administration of the school. This year there were a few changes made for the next fall administra- tion because of the new office system. V7 -Xb 'Q Mrs. Sprague Mrs. Sprague, who is familiar to all students, came to john Rogers in September of 1946. Until last year she was in charge of the main office, besides being secretary to Mr. Purdy and taking care of attend- ance. With the new branch of the office she handles all student attend- ance, and directs students who are having trouble to their proper ad- visors. Mr. James Elsensohn Mr. james Elsensohn has been appointed as Assistant Principal this last year. Before going into the administrative end of the school, he taught Social Studies for twenty-two years. He is in charge of guidance and curriculum. This consists of supervising the courses and classes, and also working with the cadets, and administering all standarized tests for students. Mrs. Welch Mrs. Welch worked at the School District's Administrative Office for three years, before coming to Rogers last fall. A few of her duties as guidance clerk consists of checking the Fresh- man Achievement Tests, making reports on the progress of students to the grade school, and helping with the enrollment of new students. She enjoys her work very much, especially the contact she has with the students.
