The Reynolds Road I3IfIfl5Lii LSI? IIUI3 About two and a half years ago, a cargo plane on its way from Mobile, Alabama, to Ypsilanti, Michigan, was forced down in' a Toledo farmer's field. What makes it unique to Rogers High students is that the disabled plane rested only a block away from Rogers. ln the process of landing, the Curtis C-46 twice circled the farm of Mr and Mrs Joseph Keil, of 4904 Hill Avenue. lt struck. the tops of trees, which ripped a hole in the underside of the fuselage and tore a section of the rightwing off. According to the pilot, James Kuglar, the craft had engine trouble over Toledo. Mr. Kuglar speculated that a leak in the gasoline tank or a mechanical defect may have caused the trouble. 16!magazine The Jefferson Airplane, as the crippled cargo transport came to be called ', was quite a tourist attraction. Portions of the wings and body were carried off by sightseers as souvenirs. lt was also the victim of graffiti and vandalism. The little plane in the field had become a familiar sight to the surrounding community, but alas, the landmark was torn apart and removed early this fall. 'This was probably due to a recent popular re- cording group, The Jefferson Airplane.
