IVICDII Ol?- CYCLES Daredevil Evel Knievel captured the imagi- nation of millions of viewers when he at- tempted to jump the Snake River Canyon in Idaho on a jet power- ed Sky-cycle, Sept. 8, 1974. Senior athlete Arron Cay- wood fEviI Canaywoodb mimicked the famed Evel by riding his bicycle over a wooden ramp in the boys' gym during an early pep assembly, nearly crushing Mr. Booth into the wall. Utrron, above Ieft.j ,. if :il Graduate Frank Piasecki appeared in a November Sunday Blade Magazine. He represents many Rogers High School faculty and students who enjoy motorcycle riding, street or trail. 'I Used to be Able to Jump Really High' Skip Hill, a junior, had been riding a motor- cycle for two and a half years. Last July he lost his left leg in a motorcycle accident. The accident happended at the corner of Reynolds and Hess Roads, when a driver failed to look before pulling out in front of Skip's cycle. People just don't look out for bikes, they look out for cars, commented Skip. Skip tired to dodge the car, but it hit his side, which cause the dislocation of his right hip and threw him over the handlebars. His left leg caught the crossbar which severed the leg just above the knee. I didn't really know that I had lost my leg until I woke up from surgery. He has no bad feelings about the man who hit him, and is rapidly adjusting to his disability. He takes great pride in his silver Doberman's-Head walking cane, which he pur- chased in December. He would like to travel out west. He can already drive a car and a snowmobile. He's currently shopping for a new bike. We asked him how he felt about the loss. In basketball, I could guard guys taller than meg I used to be able to jump really high. I also miss playing tennis, he added. He will be able to, once he refines running and back-stepping with his artificial leg. Ed. note: Those of us who know and love Skip, admire the way he has adjusted to this unspeakable loss. l5kip Hill pictured beIow.j magazine!13
