6 lS!, A citizens building committee was formed to decide the exact location of the new skill center. Three different sites were considered: lsee belowl lj The first was located at the rear of the building, covering a portion of the parking lot and possibly some of the football field. This idea was eliminated because it would connect to the rear of the original build- ing, near the cafeteria, which would create congestion. Also, it would reduce the size of the football stadium, and split the parking lot into two separate lots. Cars could not pass completely around the building. 27 The second location was on the eastern side of the building, near the girls' gym. This site would also cause congestion. It would connect at the hallway which leads to both the girls locker room and the band room. This hall is very thin already. lt would have to be widened to accomodate the amount of students flowing between the two structures. This would require the removal of two walls. All of this seemed impractical, so another site was considered. 35 A third possibility was to build in front of the building. The first concern was that it would hide the familiar and attractive. front of the already existing structure. Later, they realized that, while it would change the set- ting, it would also up-date and accentuate it. magazine!7
