ROGER IIGH SCHCCL FACULTY 7 SENIORS T9 UNDERCLASSMEN 61 SPORTS 87 ACTIVITIES 105 FEATURES 123 ROBERT S. ROGERS In the dedication of our year- book we honor the memory of Robert Standish Rogers-the man whose great dream for his community came true. It was in 1938 when he was elected to the Adams Township School Board and with him came his idea for a high school. He felt the great need for this institution not only for the convenience of the town- ship students but as a means of bringing greater unity of the en- tire area comprising Adams Township. However, when the first high school bond issue was put to a vote in November, 1938, less than half the township voted with him, and no other member of the school board agreed with him. Not stopped by this-setback, he kept talking about and fight- ing for this dream until his death in 1944. We, the students of to- day and those of tomorrow, are reaping the reward of Robert S. Rogers, gallant fight for a high school for our community. Thus, the first Rogerian is gratefully dedicated to the memory of Mr. Robert Standish Rogers. 4 ROGERIAN STAFF Seniors ....... FROM THIS Rogers High School opened its doors for the first time on September 5, 1956. Finally a reality, this long hoped-for, planned-for, high school has more than ful- filled the dreams of the many who fought and worked for it since 1938. On November 25, 1956, our new 851,124,386 high school was dedicated. The inspiring program included the acceptance of the building, presentation of the American flags to the school, a few selections by the Drum and Bugle Corps of Baker-Stengle Post, and the Rogers Concert Band and Chorus. A tour of the build- ing followed the program. Thus Rogers High School has taken its place in furthering the education of the young people of Adams Township. T0 THIS Besides all the work it takes to run five elementary schools, the Adams Township school board has been faced with a new problem, the new high school. The board has spent many long hours to provide the best in school facilities for the students in this area. Mr. Carl J. Rasmus, the Superintendant of the Adams Township Schools, is one of the busiest men in the township. In addition to the high school, he is administrator of the five elementary schools. From the left, Mr. Carl J. Rasmus, Mr. John Wiley, Mr. Harold Cameron, Clerk of Board, Mrs Marguerite Sawin, Mr. Stanley Reynolds, Mr. Bernard C. Hardly, and Mr. Walter Brimmer, at front. Being the first principal he had many problems in organizing the first year of the high school. Even though he was always busy he always had time for the individual problems of students and teachers. 15,66 11 with secretary Thelma Barnes ,QF 5 sw WL, s1..,,,1 Late to class? Absent yesterday? Then you'll have to see one of the deans, Mrs. Theodora Hazel or Mr. Robert A. Hedrick. Aside from writing excuses they are always available for personal counseling. Throughout the day, you will find Mrs, Thelma Barnes, Mr. Fish- baugh's secretary diligently at oflice tasks. In addition to secretarial work, she sells workbooks, locks, answers the telephone, and manages the traf- fic in the office as well as a New York Central dispatcher. 10 ROBERT C. At last we have completed our twelve years of schooling and we are ready to step out into this big world to meet the many adventures that we will surely en' counter. After graduation, some of us may further our education in college, some may join a branch of the service, and others may get jobsg but no matter what path of life we may choose to follow, we shall always remember, with a smile, our school days. The friends we have made, the lessons we have studied, the clubs we have joined, and all the activities in which we have participated, have prepared us well- to be the citizens of tomorrow. R. H. S. No longer the greenhorns we were last year-we are building our way up, for now we are sophomores. This year might be called our happily-oriented year because we do not have the be- wilderment of the freshmen or the stature of the upperclassmen. We have many memories of the halls of Rogers High because of the dances, plays, football and basketball games-the committees we have served onhand the organizations which we have joined. With the election of officers and student council members in Nov- ember, our extracurricular activities got under way. So with our willingness to help and be helped this has been an informative year. Now we are Freshmen. . .starting a new part of our life- high school. After learning the trick of Finding the right classrooms at the right times, we have found that this new life in high school is not as strange as we thought it would bewit is really the center of all our good times. In November we elected our class officers and our representatives in Student Council which includes two senators and four representatives. We have enjoyed the dances and the plays we have attended and the clubs that we have joined. We will always remember our freshman year, but we are looking for- ward to coming back next year, one step higher, as SOPHO- MORES. Students met there every week night to practice for the coming football season. Band members, in order to secure uniforms, had a tag day and sold lightbulbs. Majorettes and alternates were chosen from the band members. After band uniforms were purchased, the majorettes' and alternates' uniforms were secured. Practice during class and drill after school has helped make this group a success. Throughout the year the Rogers High band performed diligently at all public appear- ances. Special formations were presented at the football games. A concert was held in March to acquaint the students with the concert band. Letters were also distributed to those who would ordinarily have received them at their former schools. The RHS band was seen at pep rallies and at all home basketball games. DANCE GAA sponsored its first serni-formal dance with the theme Sweetheart Swirlf, The decor- ations were very elaborate, consisting of a foun- tain with water flowing from the top 3 a silver ball with red lights reflecting from it created red spots dancing over the floor. The main attraction of the evening was the crowning of the King of Hearts, Fred Hum- mel, by GAA president, Pat Anderson. RIGHT: Everyone having a good time dancing with their sweethearts.'l LEFT: Casting their ballots for King of Hearts are, Left to Right: Janet Polzin, Sue McTigue, and Billie Ghaster. A i .3 RAMBUNCTICUS Rogers is the only school in the G.N.C. to have a live mascot. Rambunctious is a symbol of the vitality and good sportsmanship that each student at Rogers posses- ses. The appearance of the ram at football games, basketball games, and other schoo' activities seems to induce the students to cheer when winning and smile even though losing. A dance called Rambunctious Ramble was given to raise funds for the ex- pense of keeping the ram. When Joseph Super Market donated the ram to Rogers, Student Council ap- pointed Joan Wright as oflicial Ram Commissioner. This title gives her complete responsibility of the ram. Here Rambunctious poses in his red and white pom-pom trimmed blanket which was made by Priscilla Eichenlaub, left, and Joan Wright, right. 129 SADIE HAWKINS DANCE Sadie Hawkins Day was celebrated at Rogers with a dance which was a girl-ask-boy affair. Everyone attend- ing was supposed to dress in true hillbilly fashion-the most- realistic. Lee Palms, left, and Judy Stalter, right, being crowned king and queen. Attired as Daisey Mae and Little Abner, Vir- ginia Napierala, and Ralph Rogers, seem to be enjoying the evenings festivities. Teddy bear seems to be the object of Dave Ziegler and Jean Utz attention. Bet they wouldn't be hug- ging it so hard if it were a real onel. 130 Mr. Frost to Mr. Phillips: Heck, I an't' no bum! Chuck Stange: Hah! What is this--the Left Bank?? No it's only Miss Miller and her French bums slumming it during a study session. Bob Neary screams and jumps on a desk after seeing a mouse and Dick Gingrich runs around looking for a cat. BUM DAY Since Rogers had not yet acquired any traditions a Bum Day was planned and held in the school. Students were allowed to dress in a ragged fashion and look as bummish as they pleased. However, the following Monday the tables were turned as they decked out in their Sunday best to hear a special speaker. Principal jack Fishbaugh receiving flags from the American Legion Post. The flags were later distributed throughout the classrooms. DEDICATION The dedication of Robert S. Rogers High School was held in the auditorium, Sunday, November 25, 1956, at 2 p.m. The Knowlton Construction Company presented keys to the architects, McLaughlin 81 Keil, who in turn presented the building to the Board of Education. American Legion Post, assisted by Drum and Bugle Corps of Baker-Stengle Post and the Boy and Girl Scout troops, presented thirty-eight American flags to Rogers High School. The flags were accepted by Principal Jack Fishbaugh. Superintendent of Adams Township Schools, Carl Rasmus, speaking at the dedication Seated behind him are other board members and speakers.
