FHends From Afar ttWir sehen uns wieder am Michigan See, translated means: HWe can see us again at Lake Michigan? Those were the last words said by the foreign exchange students, who visited Rogers in the Spring. Hopefully for the Rogers student body. those words will come true. We benefited very much from those few weeks. As said by Brenda Ladwig, l'Even the persons that can't go to Germany gained a lot from the visit. We saw the different clothing styles and also the different behaviors. One big part of the program was finding out our similarities with the German students. Rock music, swimming, sailing, basketball, ping-pong, french fries, and coke were just a few of the things that we had in common. Most of the time the German students went to school, but any free time was quickly filled up. The major trip was to Michigan and then to Canada. They also went to Chicago a few times. Other days were filled up with parties, airplane rides, movies or just driving around taking in unfamiliar sights. The best thing was the friendships that were made. No matter how far we are apart, Rogers' students will always remember those three weeks we had to get to know and like the German students. Eighteen years is as big a celebration in the United States as in Germany for German student Lo GlUck. As Herr Schulte-Werde and Mayor Clifford Ar- nold discuss the differences in the school sys- tem, Herr Ruth looks on with a grin. 30 Student Life
