Pom-Pon Girls Entertain Crowd The Pom-Pon Girls, adding vivid color dressed in new skirts and sweaters, pleased the crowd with heir routines to Macho Man . Boogie Oogie Oogie and Conquis- tador. Once again under the direc- tion of Mrs. Keur who originated this organization eight years ago. the girls marched with the band in the Grand Rapids Santa Claus parade. Also. they were kept busy presenting the Sweetheart Swirl and singing in the Christmas assembly.

Swimmers Rate in State The 1978-79 Girls ' Swimming Team splashed through an exciting year and swam their most successful season. Sophomore Mary Britten, in addition to breaking both Rogers ' diving records, received an All Conference award and placed 5th in diving at the state meet. Freshman Karla VandenBrink, also receiving All Conference recognition, captured a 5th in the 50 yard free style and 7th in the 100 yard freestyle at the state meet. The Hawks brought back a super 17th place overall in the state. Linda VandenBroek and Mary Britten did a fabulous job as the captains of the team. Frosh Promote The 1978-79 Freshman Cheerlead- ers won 3rd place at the Cheerlead- ing Clinic at Godwin. The girls also cleaned windows after Spirit Week, made many signs, and together with the J.V. and Varsity Cheerleaders, sponsored the first dance of the year.
