Hawks Win Recognition The 1978-79 Varsity Football Team tackled an exciting season and many Hawks won recognition. All Conference winners were Doug Dunham, Greg Watrous, and Skip Lockyear. with Skip also capturing All Area Safety and holding the new record for most interceptions. Senior Bill Bunch kicked a record breaking 42 yard field goal, break- ing his own record of 32 yards. Matt Underhill, filling in for injured Andy Vavere as quarterback, did a good solid job of leading the team, and Wayne Fuller was great in the game against East Grand Rapids. Like every Rogers ' team Mr. Ripmaster has coached, the guys this year were really enthusiastic. They put out all their effort and it showed in our games against Rockford, Grandville, West Ottawa, Godwin, and Northview. Swimmers Rate in State The 1978-79 Girls ' Swimming Team splashed through an exciting year and swam their most successful season. Sophomore Mary Britten, in addition to breaking both Rogers ' diving records, received an All Conference award and placed 5th in diving at the state meet. Freshman Karla VandenBrink, also receiving All Conference recognition, captured a 5th in the 50 yard free style and 7th in the 100 yard freestyle at the state meet. The Hawks brought back a super 17th place overall in the state. Linda VandenBroek and Mary Britten did a fabulous job as the captains of the team.
