Outstanding Performers Lead Freshmen The 1978-79 Freshmen Football Team, coached this year by Mr. Moore, showed some fantastic lead- ing performances by Dan Dingle. Steve Smith, and Rich Friberg. Two of these leading performers, Steve Bubba Smith and Rich Friberg, showed such leadership that they were named captains of the team. The team scored two points against East Grand Rapids, which was the first time any Rogers tennis team scored on them. In addition, the team ' s captain, Kim Meyers, was the first Rogers tennis player to win a Regional title and the first to score points in the state meet. Football Team kicked off a super year with a record of 4-3-2. They whomped tough oppo- nents such as West Ottawa, East Grand Rapids, and Wyoming. Coached by Mr. Jones, with Clark VerHulst coming on strong as a team leader, the team had a lot of fun and by the end of the season had matured into a solid group of per- formers.
