At the end of the basketball season, they threw a highly successful toga party. They also held a Halloween Party, a Christmas Party, and a roller skating party that the entire student body could attend. Further- more, the club also took up a collection for the Santa Claus Girls and participated in the WGRD St. Jude School-a-thon. Key Club Unlocks National Honors Under the leadership of Mr. Reed and co-presidents Randy Kuzawa and Anne Noseworthy, Key Club once more proved to be the most active organization at Rogers. Exciting events of the year included Teacher Appreciation Week and the state convention held at Port Huron. Among the many service projects that the members worked with was weekly tutoring of elementary students and a spring picnic for the underprivileged children in the Wyoming area. At the state and national convention the club was honored as being one of the best in any high school. Kathy and Randy plan their strategy Each one teach one The members relax after a meeting Brenda helps a student JJ Drama Club Presents Hello Dolly The 1978-79 Drama Club, faced with the problem of raising money for the production of their musical Hello Dolly , came up with several brilliant ideas. During the summer they held a highly successful garage sale and in the fall sold raffle tickets on a color television. The climax of their year came when Hello Dolly co-produced by the club ' s president, Brian Uitvlugt, and Jim Zech, was presented at Godwin Auditorium. In addition, the advisor Mrs. Keur and other members of the club saw the Fisher Theatre productions of Annie and Chorus Line. 1978-79 Drama Club A typical club meeting Kristyn Keur picks the winning raffle ticket Close Encounters of the Political Kind The 1978-79 Close-Up club, in preparation for their annual trip to Washington, D.C., attended the local Close-Up program, where local and country issues were discussed, and the state Close-Up Program in Lans- ing where state issues were viewed. A group of Close-Up representatives flew to Washington, D.C. where they attended workshops, seminars, and listened to speakers on subjects of national and international interest. Some of the members were involved in decorating the courtyard for Christmas. Other activities that the members were involved in were an art club project sale, taking a trip to the Rockford art shops, and assigning an art league to set up a spring exhibit. Julie Hinton made contributions for the Art club in Hello Dolly. 1978-79 Art Club The 1978-79 FCA which met every two weeks at either a member ' s home or the home of Mr. Barber, was involved in many interesting activities. It ' s only a short time in life, And more than half the years are gone. We will soon be looking back at the past, At the things we used to do. Get the principal so mad at us, We thought our days were through. When you have to go to school, You think it ' s such a bummer, You ' re counting down the days, Waiting for the summer. Having to get up in the morning, And trying not to be late. Getting all your homework done, You put it off, And let it wait. We present to you the great class of ' 79! ' jT , ' ■ 2 V As this chapter closes. Filled with the picture poses Of days of laughter and song, We are leaving to carry on In the way you have shown And ways all our own. As this bud blooms To become a flower soon, We see the familiar faces. Many tears, and embraces. But inside we all smile, Knowing it will only be a whiis Until we remember the time | Of those moments filled with rhyme. We will cherish the memory spent with friends Of moments we wished never to end. But of the future.3 We can be sure. For we have just begun To reach for the next rung. We will go on to spread our wings Reaching for the stars in new dreams, Looking back only to the memory And all the places we have seen. For tomorrow we will be out there. Free to soar, free to share. Lair As editor of the 1979 Lair, I would like to thank Nancy Thomas, Mrs. Keur, and Mr. Bob Talsma, our year- book representative, for all the extra help they have given me and the staff. I would also like to thank the student body of Rogers, for without you we wouldn ' t have a book. wm-m Devious Delia The 1978-79 Lair Staff Naughty Nancy Saucy Sandy Sassy Sue !
