Dedication While moat shlp's cruise books are dedicated to one sole individual, the list of per- sona to whom this boo space. The rsonnel who have seen us through our ups and downs, our good times and P0 bad those who have departed us for future assignments and civilian life, those who have recently reported aboard, those who wanted to stay on, but through some act of God could not -- fo you, the crew of the best damn destroyer in the fleet, this book is dedicated. May you find some toy and remembrance each time you leaf through these pages and possibly shed a small tear as you remember the good times had by all on this cruise. Commanding Officers Past Present CDR John D. Holland. Jr.. USN A native ot Washington. D C. CDR Holiarfd received his commission upon graduation. from tee Navy Academy in 1958. He served aboard the USS ROAN QDD-8535 and, the USS PRATT iDLG-131. before reporting to DESRON EIGHTEEN where ne served as Staff Material Officer, CDR Holland received his Master of Science degree in 1964. and returned to the US Naval Academy as a Company Of- ficer. In 1966 he took command ot the USS ADROIT QMSO-5091 and in 1969. he was assigned to the staff of the Chief ot Naval Operations in Washington. CDR John Holland comes to the ROGERS from the Joint Staff. Headquarters Military Assistance Command. Vietnam. it QM D R Leo A. Rauch, USN CDR Leo A, Rauch received his commission through tne R.O.C. Program in August 1958. He served aboard two destroyer escorts, two destroyers. and one communications relay ship, before being assigned to tne USS ROWAN QDD-7823 as Executive Officer and Navigator. CDR Rauch came to the ROGERS in July of 1971 from the ASW and Strategic Warfare Development Division of OPNAV, in Washington, D.C. He departed the ROGERS for re- assignment at COMCRUDESPAC.
