Commanding Officer's essage I think we'll all remember this cruise as being an especially good one. ROGERS did just about everything a destroyer of her class could be tasked to do ln SEVENTHFLEET - lots of shooting, PIRAZ and North SAR shotgun as well as carrier escort duties. Along with these assignments went the many necessary refueling, rearmirg and other at-sea replenishment evolutlons. Everyone aboard will remember also the relaxation and good liberties in Sublc, Singapore, SOPA Admin ln Hong Kong, time when money ran low, and the ships' parties ln Kaohsiung. Yes, there was hard work and some uncomfortable days at sea with our friends, typhoons Della and Elaine, but there were many good times too. I hope these next pages wlllbring back pleasant memories of ROGERS' WestPac cruise of 1971. To the mother of the three brothers for whom our ship is named, Mrs. Josie Rogers, we dedicate this book. L. A. Rauch Lieutenant Commander, USN Commanding Officer
