'L r FQ 'i' sg in-Q X ' ' N 2 1 1 E 1 Q36 E 'P +A, .t - NN ' f .1 , X ' EXECUTIVE OFFICER LCDR John Roy Roepke was born in 1926 in Water- loo, Iowa. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the Navy and began his training at the Fort Lauderdale Fire Control Operator School. His first tour of sea duty was served aboard the USS BURDO CAPD 1335 and in- cluded operations in the Pacific Area during World War II. Having advanced to Fire Control Technician Second Class, our present Executive Officer was chosen for' mid- shipman training at the U, S. Naval Academy in 1949. While at the Academy he played varsity football and lacrosse, being named an All American lacrosse player in 1952. ENS Roepke received his commission in 1953 and reported to the USS Sandoval CAPA 194D asMain Propulsion Assistant. In July 1955, LTJG Roepke became the Engineering Officer for the USS Henry W, Tucker CDDR 8751 He then preceeded to the U, S. Naval Post Graduate Schoolin Monterey, California where he received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. July 1959 saw our XO return to sea as Commanding Officer of the USS Summit County CLST 11463. TWO Yea-V5 later he became an instructor at the NROTC unit of the University of Notre Dame. Then in July 1963 he reported to the Naval Advisory Group Vietnam as an advisor to the U COTDS junk force and the Vietnamese Naval Academy- While on duty at Nha Trang he received the VietnameSe Medal of Honor lst Class. He reported to his present duty station in August 1965. LCDR Roepke is married to the former Dorothy Freschauf of David City, Nebraska. The Roepkes have two children, Timothy John, 7, and Kimberly Suzanne, 4-
