HO SAID these pages are inaccurate? True . . . not exactly all our unreps were in the daytime such as the ones shown here. But unfortunately, the assorted delights of midnight replenishment are hard to capture on film. We were a thirsty ship. The Thirty Knot Ghost of the Vietnam Coast needed a drink every two or three days and we were forced to oblige. ln our 49 refuelings, we received a Rogers cruise record of 3,204,339 gallons of NSFO, This is about 4OfZp of the total fuel received since leaving Charleston Naval Shipyard in June 1964. We were hungry, too. ln spite of occasional rumb- lings of discontent from the mess decks, an amazing amount of food was consumed. We took on jumbo olives from the Sacramento, six-way beef from the Pictor, and crunchy peanut butter from the Regulus. As for spare parts to restock our rapidly emptying storerooms . . . well . . . that's another story.
