In an effort to instill pride in our school and promote school spirit, members sold buttons, decals, and sweatshirts all imprinted with the Putnam insignia. Once again, we conducted a successful canned goods drive for the benefit of the Salvation Army. Luz and her officers are also planning other fund raisers so that Student Council might have a school store in operation next September. This year we will be represented at Student Government Day in Boston by Luz Santiago. Eddie Ramos will serve as her alternate. Mrs. Trudeau, advisor to the group, wishes to thank all of the officers and members for their hard work and looks forward to another successful year next year. oe FIRST ROW - Tawanda Brown, Sony Leak, Ronald Brawner. Seniors taking journalism as their English elective learn to gather and write news and print it in an attractive manner. The Putnam Press staff has received several journalistic awards for its fine work. These young journalists annually attend conferences at Holyoke Community College and American International College to learn more about broadcast and print media. Meeting deadlines, getting copy and finding the right photos seemed like an endless task but it got done. We would like to thank Mr. Doug Bradway for his graphic arts advice, Mr. Jim Machnik for his coordination of the book, and Mrs. Barbara Bailey for preparing the copy of the book. With their help the task seemed smaller. We hope while you look through this yearbook you will remember the good memories of this school and all the hard work will have seemed very worthwhile. After an opening game tie against MC Cann Tech the Beavers ran off with three straight wins. They beat Monument Mountain 8-0, Tech High 24-8, and Lee High 14-0. After four games the Beaver defense had only allowed one touchdown and this defensive team proved over the season to be one of the best in Western Mass. The last three games proved to be another story. After a heart breaking 7-0 loss to league champion Mount Greylock, the Putnam team seemed to lose some of its drive. They also lost to Saint Josephs TOP ROW: Head Coach Drowne, Joe Selewski, Craig Happanen, Steve Servantez, Herbert Plummer, Stan Servantez, Gerald Garvin, Joe Gray, Booker Lester, Charles Williams, Gus Chamoun, Assistant Coach Fenton. BOTTOM ROW: Brian Goetzendanner, Harry Hill, Gary Truman, Eric Motley, Jerry Jordan, Kennie Jackson, and Eddie Ramos. 72 High and Commerce. A bright note for the Beavers was the selection of Mike Manning to the first team all league offensive unit at a guard position. Because of the Beavers outstanding defense, three players were selected to the first team all league defensive unit. They were: Craig Happanen at line backer, Gerald Garvin at defensive end and Eric Motley was a unanimous selection in the defensive secondary. Also selected to all league second team positions were: Stan Servantez at defensive end, Jerry Jordan and Booker Lester at defensive tackle and Kennie Jackson at line backer. 74 3' BOY’S SOCCER Putnam Boys Soccer team despite a disappointing 1-14-1 record had a very competitive and encouraging year.
