Retired Mr. Brown started working at Put- nam on September 9, 1958. He gave the students of Putnam a chance to excer- size the excellent skills which were tought to them by going on co-op. Mr. Brown provided most of the co-op jobs available to us, which have always worked out well. His absense will surely be missed by the students of Putnam. Mr. McCabe started working at Put- nam on February 14, 1955. He guided students when they were confused and gave them advise from his heart. He was caring and well liked counselor. We are glad that we had a chance to have such a man working on our behalf. We will miss him greatly. Mr. Smith started working at Putnam on September 7, 1966. He tought ma- chine shop skills. His personality was well liked by all his students and in re- turn they will never forget his helpfull- ness and guidence along the way of his - teaching. Those who had the pleasure of meeting him are sorry to see him leave. We will miss him truely. The leadership of the officers; Karen Bowden(pres.), Rose Dumas (vice pres.), Maria Torres (sec.), Thor Wilson (treasurer), and Mr. Welch, this has been a good year. Yearbook Staff The yearbook staff of 1982 has worked hard and their work shows. With the help of Mr. Machnik, Mr. Kwajewski, and Mr. Bradway, the colors, fun, and activities of this years class have been most impressive. While | was working on the yearbook with the staff, | realized how important working together really was to express one another’s ideas and discuss different aspects for the yearbook. With the pa- tience and guidances of the yearbook edi- tor, we met our deadlines and did the quality work which was expected of us. As this year ends we will walk away with friendships which developed from work- ing so closely together. aire Vet Pe twas SoS SH FSH TEE SCRE ILIS Ei We SO Se Sot THEee AW EE oe PEREW cf CiLt AATAS CARY NGG eae ee eae ee Satna! haga rep posure mt Ea ‘iit BES cnew WH fie, ESSE ERLE SF REN TER ee ane renee an q é ay —— : 2 M : i i ‘ [ i . Football The 1981-82 Putnam Football team had a short season due to Prop. 24%. Coach Dan Balicki was impressed with the teams perfor- mance, seeing that it was such a short season. Captain Mark Jones and co-captain Chris Hale did a sensational job on the offense, along with sophomore halfback Junior Wil- liams. The football teams most exciting game was against Commerce, when they shut out the favored team 12-0. Two-time state champ Ware whitewashed the Beavers 14-0 before Putnam went on their three game winning streak. Rodriguez's standout pitching performance helped defeat a stubborn Commerce team, 18-12. The biggest upset in the league took place when the ‘never say die” Beavers re- taliated from their early season drubbing against the Ware In- dians by nipping them 2-1. Coach Norris is pleased with the distance-men this this. The squad shows incredible strength in track and field competition. Their most impressive victory was over the helpless Commerce Raiders, a 108-28 run-a-way. Some of the key tracksters from last year have returned to do some damage in their division. Charles Love was the only trackster to bring home 3-metals, (triple jump, 440 run, mile relay). David Gayle and Chris Hale are mainstays in the long jump and javelin respectively. Ike Byrd and Kevin Roos did sen- sational with the shot put. Junior Williams and 100 yd dash partner, Corney Little, added 100% every time. Ken Byers, Charles Fitch, and Scott Addison were the heros on the high hurdles while David Gayle con- trolled the lows. Isaiah Harris and Garret Hender- son did super in the 220 yd event. The 440 relay team of Zane Harris, Rob Gayle, Corney Little, and Junior Williams continue to break records. We did goof in a few places in the book such as Mr. Smith’s name is were Mr. Smith’s name is or is that Mr. Smiths’ shops are reversed!!! However this year we did bring back the color and style to the yearbook. Judging from the comments around the school, it gets a grade of “A”. On behalf of all the yearbook staff, may we wish you all the luck in the future and we hope you enjoy this book over the years. Post Script The 1982 yearbook has closed and with go many good memories. A great 3 years for alot of us and a big future ahead for all. We want to thank Mr. Baker, Mrs. Gitlen, and Mrs. Skelton for all their help and guidance. Secondly we would like to thank our class officers for their getting us through our last year at Putnam. And special thanks to all fellow class mates that made our years here a SUCCESS. We will be sorry to see more of Putnam’s fine teachers retiring. They are Mrs. - Fisher, Mr. Craven, Mr. Pickrell, Mr. Karamallis, Mr. Bujnarowski, Mr. Brown, Mr. McCabe, Mr. Smith, along with Mr. Frasca. We will miss them all. We also regret saying that on June 10, 1982, our Machine shop instructor, Mr. Disco, passed away. His students will miss him dearly.
