14 16 Varsity Season According to pre-season polls, the 1979 Roger Bacon football team was predicted to come in last place in the G.C.L. This could have discouraged many, but the Spartans were determined to prove that they were not last place material. The Spartans, through their Pride, Hustle, and Desire, proved everyone wrong and placed second in the G1C.L. with an overall record of six wins and four losses. The Bacon football team started off the season with three impressive wins over Walnut Hills, Woodward, and Withrow. Heartbreaking losses to Hamilton Badin and St. Xavier were costly, but the Spartans didn,t let up Wins over Elder and LaSalIe assured Bacon of at least a second place in the G.C.L., and a win over Moeller would earn a tie for first. That was not to be, however; but Roger Bacon had defied the experts by finishing second in the G.C.L.
