DEDICATIQN MISS ALVINA DGERGER Someone once said that secretaries really run the world - not Presidents, execu- tives, doctors, lawyers, or administrators. The secretary always knows what's going on, where important material can be found, and what has to be done. Well, in May of 1937, Fr. Juvenal Berens, Roger Bacon's first principal, found himself in a dilemma. The school's secretary and registrar was to be married that August, and he had no replacement. Fr. Juvenal then paid a visit to the Doerger household across the street from the school, and there he found Miss Alvina Doerger. Thus began Miss Doerger's forty-one years of dedication and fidelity to Roger Bacon High School. Miss Doerger comes from a family of dedicated workers. Her brother John was an English teacher for forty-four years - thirty four of which were spent at Roger Bacon. Her sister Jan worked here for many years as assistant registrar, and her brother Paul was a Franciscan missionary who died in China. Her cousin Urb Doerger is now one of the maintenance men here at Roger Bacon. This devotion to Roger Bacon and the Franciscans is epitomized in Miss Alvina. Having served under all of Roger Bacon's six principals, Miss Doerger has seen the growth of solid Spartan tradition and has helped vitally in its development. She feels that it is a real privilege to work for the Franciscan Fathers and be a small part of the Roger Bacon family. For years, she has taken every opportunity she had to offer personal help and encouragement to the students. Miss Doerger's position as registrar required that she be quite organized and very meticulous, and these she truly was. Before the advent of the computer, for example, she would prepare each student's report card by hand, making sure she made no mistakes CThe computer doesn't even know its mistakes.J. Such an undertaking required at times long hours, but long hours have never been an impediment to her ideal to be a hardworking person. But besides being a hard worker, Miss Doerger is a very kind, gentle, and compassionate individual who prays for everyone's future. Now, as she enters her retirement, the TROUBADOUR staff dedicates this 1979 yearbook to Miss Alvina Doerger in gratitude for the time, effort, devotion, and love she has given to Roger Bacon High School and its students.
