Preparation for the season st arted in J une when each Cross- Country candidate began running his summer workout program. By the end of the summer and when school began in the fall, each team member had run between 300 and 500 miles. Team work outs began the first week in August. The Varsity squad competed in the top flight schedule this sea- son placing 5th in the tough Ashland Road Race, 4th in Colerain Invitational, winning the Spartan Invitational, capturing 4th and 3rd reSpectively in the Mt. Healthy and Sycamore Invitationals, 3rd in the G.C.I. meet, 5th at Princeton and 4th in the Sectional. With the exception of the G.C.L., the remainder of the meets consisted of 18 to 35 teams, so the Varsity did fare well against tough cempetition and did capture several team trophies. An outstanding Reserve squad was a strong point in this yearis program. The Cross-Country Reserves captured 2nd place at the Colerain Soph. Invitational, won both the Spartan Invitational and the Sycamore Invitationali They fell just 2 points short in their bid for the G.C.L. championship. singled out for awards at the seasonis end were Jim Walker, most valuable, along with Bob Berheger, who was the most im- proved. For the outstanding improvement on the Soph. team were Paul Goddard, Kent Nusekable, and Tom Schnur. John Jones was elected for next yearis Captain. The Spartan Band started their 1974-75 season with one of the youngest groups in the bands his- tory. The combined total of the freshmen and sophomore classes made up more than 6096 of the entire body of the bands. The marching Spartans planned a year of strong preparation for a success- ful 75-76 season. During the year the band march- ed an outstanding 10 game football season and then hosted their 3rd annual QCSI with a moving military show, which brought the crowd to their feet. The band then competed in the Ohio Music Solo and Ensemble Contest. Bacon entered more than 30 soloist and numerous ensembles! On their return trip the Spartans brought with them more than 70 first and second place medals. Throughout the remainder of the year the Spartans will work toward their long awaited goal: a national cham- pionship in 1976. 24 Makes Them the Pride of Bacon 25 Homecoming u - uu-UI- m' ' E 1 lnlnu- 3393 ' .II... ... : l, lIUIQQ g .g ' , 4..-..- .IIIllIlI-I I Cull!ll ...g IIIII I-ntuullnll Ilunnllic .3... :Il-- u IIIIII ltiillll. ..' Dan Andersen O.F.M., Director ofthe play, discribed Oscar Wilde's play as Lhe following: - hiOscar Wildcis THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST is a wild poke at the pompous pretensions of Victorian England, Wilde delighted in scandaiizing and scrutiniz- ing the Victorian ihrespectable classii which disowned him. While Jack, Aigernon, Gwen. dolyn, Cecily, PrismgChasu bie. and Bracknell work their way through a web of deception, Wilde takes every opportunity to open his satiric attack on everything from the church to contemporary novels. Can Ernest really discover the importance of being earnestT' The cast of the three act play should be very proud oftheir performance in THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EAR'NEST.
