SHRINE CF CUR LADY OF VLADIMIR We dedicate this volume of the Troubadour to our Lady of Vladimir. Under this title our Lady is honored by members of the Russian Orthodox Church as savior of Moscow and patroness of unity. In l395 Tammerlane and his Tartar army threatened Moscow. The Grand Duke of Moscow ordered the icon of our Lady of Vladimir to be brought to the city. On the day when the icon arrived, Tammerlane had an apparition of the Virgin in the icon. He turned from Moscow and spared the city. Several years later a feud arose between the czars and the heirarchy of the Church. The Russian people flocked to the shrine of our Lady of Vladimir and prayed that they may be saved from the evil acts of their leaders. Today the icon is in the Uspensky Cathedral in Moscow. Cn November I I, I962, Fr. Sylvan Becker, O.F.M., Provincial of St. John Baptist Province and President of Roger Bacon High School, blessed the icon after the Homecoming Mass. Fr.
