Nlill lxllll Mar. ixltll 05 gvents sl- Miss lVilcy fell while ice skating and broke her leg. lVe all felt very sorry for ber. 5 Teachers began holding conferences to see what they could do to help students become better adjusted in both classroom and extra-curricular activities. It's a good idea. And we got out of school earlier! Ii Ninth graders mixed happily at their animal mixer. l'resident Marsh Galloway supervised plans. 6 A Cappella put on its first assembly of the year. lVhat with 'iazzed up tempo and light, pleasing numbers the audience was really sentl 12 National 'l'hespians put on their best bibs and tuckers and initiated eleven members in a senior-high assembly. ll St. Yalentine's Day gave lllrs. 1lnrray,s Latin classes a chance to write sweet nothings to one another. Amo te. osculum. Cupido. and the like were slune' around all day. P1 19 General Motors' exhibit on Progress in Science thrilled all of us and gave llfinter, Hau- serman. and Yvithington a chance to rake in a little booty for displaying their brain power. 5 Seniors had the audience rolling in the aisles with that maniaeal comedy. You f'an't Take It lVith Youf, 19 'l'he River hand concert. one of the most looked for dates of the year, drew a full house to hear the catchy marches and amusing novelty mnnbers. 22 That long awaited, badly needed vacation arrived. The halls were deserted f well prac- tically. 29 lvell. we have to come hack sometime, but did it have to be to tests? VVe're in the home stretch now. though. April 1 Did you get fooled by someone? You're not lmman if you didn't. April 8 The Quiz Bee is always fun for everyone but the contestants. Love those thinking expressions! April 17 Spring fever seized River students, and notes and conduct slips were rife. May 8 This is probably the most important sport date ot' the year. VVQ mean. ot' course, the day of the River Relays. Everyone from the runners to the art department takes part. But don't go away, for on 4 20 The senior sponsored Christmas dance came in on soft lights. Haven't seen that much hare flesh outside a huteher shop for years. 19 Jan. 5 ff Vacation. O.K., what did you do? Somethingforfother. 'llhe Juniors whomped the Senior Orange Sox for the soccer crown. This was also known as the Snow Ball flassic. with spectators participating. IS 'llhose tieehle old timers, the Alumni, returned for the annual haslxethall classic, and danged it they didn't ahnost winl -1- l'ete Nason's hirthdayl Big occasion. 5 It started snowing early this morning. and it snowed aml snowed and snowed ...... 5 ive came hack to freshly painted study hall and classrooms. A lovely soft green. G Don 'llenney was elected The hoy most likely to hecome a carpet hagger hy his clear-thinking classmates. Modest Don, as his friends call him, refused the honor with a few well chosen words. T Dorothy Mertus was given honorahle mention in editorial writing in the first annual school conf test. Uongratulations, Dot. 9 In a peppy pep assemhly our cheerleaders un- veiled some new cheers and announced that they had concocted one too wild to fit on the stage. 19 This is known hereahouts as Black Mon- day. Semester exams. y' know. 22 The uli02lllll'l'Sn ramhled in for a sharp assembly. 23 liighth graders put on an extra super talent show at their mixer. liarh l'riest howled them over with her hula hula numher. 28 'l'wo things happened. First. l'learview pref sented an exchange assemhly. complete with en- semhlesv and live puppets. That evening we went to lllarshall for a hasliethall game. Given a couple more minutes. we might have heaten them. lVell. we might have. 30 'llhirteen seniors and eight .juniors were honored hy election to the National Senior llonor Society in a special assemhly, 3 A large huff collie, property ot' Miss lVilma Arndt, played havoc with the Hirchert-IIauser- man haskethall game. -if How much fur does a Nutchuk wear when a Nutchula wears much fur? f.-im.-.-..
