ADMINISTRATION FACULTY TO THE CLASS OF 1967 Soon your stay at Rocky Mountain College will be history. Commencement will open new doors upon different scenes . We hope that what has happened here will prove to be sound preparation for the years ahead and will make for continuing interest and loyalty to your school. It need hardly be said that college has raised more questions that provided answers - earnest questions which remain with us as we sense an ultimate and transcending purpose for our lives. So, commencement is not a time for complacency but, rather, for commitment to the ever unfinished business of living the good life. May the friendships which you have enjoyed here be enduring ones, maintaining ties of interest across the land and the sea and the years. Lawrence F President Small 66 M. C. The Bears avenged a 13-6 defeat by the Orediggers earlier in the season as Dick Norden latched on to a Gary Krug pass for one touchdown and Dwight Fields rambled 37 yards for another six points. Coach Frank Mathew and C. R. Stiffler had a hard time getting the gridders going as Rocky finished with a 1-7 mark for the season. Dennis Kopitzke was voted the teams ' s out- standing lineman while Fields walked away with backfield honors. In May of 1967, near the close of the second semester, the football team as well as the en- tire student body and faculty, in addition to dountless others were delivered a severe blow. Ray Higgins was fatally injured in an automo- bile accident. The Ray Higgins Memorial trophy will be given annually to the outstanding defensive play- er each season. The trophy will be given to that player who approaches Ray ' s greatness as a football player, a student, but above all a gentleman and a great guy. 80 Stalwart Ernie Morris outjumps a Carroll eager CAGERS DROP EASTERN COACH KLINDT RETIRES The last time it happened was in 1961 when coach Dan Burns was a senior at Rocky. The Bear cagers stuck one on Eastern again this season as Rocky stopped the Yellowjackets in overtime, 83-82. Along with Coach Burns, Head Coach Herb Klindt directed the Bears to an impressive 7-3 conference record which was good enough for a tie for second in the Frontier Conference. The hoopsters finished with a respectable 14- 11 mark overall. The season was highlited when Ed Leggett and Ed Yee were selected to the All -Conference team. In addition to being named the team ' s most valuable player, Leggett was given honor- able mention on the N. A. I. A. All -American team. Sharpshooter Ernie Morris, Joe Myrick and speedy guards, Wayne Stiff ler and Mike Fogerty rounded out the starters. Vincent Paul, Doug Kikkert, and Alan Quimby also was ex- tended action. At the end of the season, the 14th most successful coach in the nation. Herb Klindt, passed the reigns to former Jamestown coach, Jack Ecklund. Mr. Klindt retires as head bas- ketball coach after 36 years, which ranks as tenth in tenure in the nation. Also scoring points for Rocky were Jim Adams and Jim So- derberg who both tied for fifth in the high jump. An inexperienced team and inclement weather hampered Coach Frank Mathew ' s cindermen. Because of the unseasonable wea- ther, the track team ' s practice schedule was limited, but they were able to participate in several meets. CASEY, B.A. ' 65 June 18, 1967 July 19, 1942 Marine Lance Corporal Dennis L. Casey was the first Rocky Mountain College graduate to give his life for his country in the War in Viet Nam. Recognized by all who knew him as a leader and gentleman, Dennis Casey during the past year was very much Rocky ' s Man in Viet Nam. He kept students informed of the conflict. His untimely death occurred one day before he was to have returned to the United States when he volunteered to replace a friend who was ill. Dennis Casey knew why he was in Viet Nam. He saw purpose in his assignment and gave everything to it. 34 • ' ■«.. ' - S —at ' •mV, PRINTED 1 1 l F ■1 ■. • . ■- i i w - . ' iHnuu,.. ■' ■g-. ' -. J t ;-.-r « ' K- .■f v.
