Marcus Valerius Martialis Dedication To a man of humble and sincere spirit who has been on our campus for five years .... A man who began his education in a rural school and rose to become one of our nation ' s pioneers in the area of psychological testing .... Whose talents range from band directing to fishing .... A man who firmly believes that there is some good in every individual and many of us are grateful to him because of his persistence in finding that good and stimulatin g it ... . Whose ability to ignore the clock permitted him to work long hours devel- oping programs that have contributed greatly to academic quality and progress at Rocky Mountain College .... A man whose great capabilities and achievements have left his name re- corded in Who ' s Who in America and yet .... A man who has never failed to take a sincere personal interest in each of us as students .... TO DR. ERNEST R, WOOD, our Dean, it is with great respect that we dedicate the 1961 Yellowstone. We, the members of the 1960 and 1961 graduating classes hope that we have been successful, both in preserving faithfully the heritage of the past 78 years and in helping to lay a groundwork upon which you will be proud to continue building. i J 1 s ' HX V-V ssaSM w ■ 8 J 1 ' f j . ! ■ ■■ ■ ;■. Vic, through his diligence, determination and strong sense of responsi- bility, has left a valuable legacy to all of us who had the privilege of knowing and associating with him. As he lived, he proved that spirit, will and purpose are the important plays in this game of life. Our memories of him will be looked to as a great source of inspiration for a long time to come. Death never triumphs when a solitary man ' s way of living continues to influence others through- out their lives. t« ' JT VICTOR WILLIAM WHEADON Basketball The 1960-61 Basketball Bears pose for the camera. The one glowing highlight in a 4-6 MCCyear was an 84 to 82 overtime win over Eastern . Other wins came over Mines and a pair against Northern. On the way to an overall mark of 10 to 14, the Bears downed Chadron (Neb.) twice, Jamestown (N.D.) the same number of times Powell Junior Col lege and S. Dakota Tech. Coach Klindt will losefive members of the squad via the sheepskin route as Tom Quilling, Dan Burns, Cal McRae, Bob Kelso and Gerald Littlejohn will receive their degrees. Ruth Workentine guards Rocky ' s basket in the playday held here When Miss Donna Marburger was added to the physical education department of Rocky Mountain College, she brought with her ideas which would give the Bearettes of the school a great deal of activity. In the 1960-61 school year Miss Marburger carried through many of her ideas and developed a very strong program of women ' s athletics at Rocky. Included on the agenda were basket- ball, table tennis, volleyball, badminton and softball. Perhaps the major highlightof the year was the basketbal I playday held in the RMC gym. In this meet the Bearettes downed teams from Montana State College, Eastern, Powell and Sheridan Junior Colleges. Sylvia Zuroff was awarded the table tennis championship wh i le Carolyn Hamilton captured the badminton singles. Surprises were in store for Kaaren Carroll, Sharon Hilbert, La Verne Sal ley, Mary Ann Hamlin, Maureen Hatcher, and Sharon Gummer when they were notified as being contestants. 103 Each spring the department of art sponsors a showing of accumulated works by the students. Maureen Hatcher and Nancy Wood are shown here preparing for the 1961 festival . Va la Gislason poses with some of her works during a three artist showing. Ron Hultberg is another artist whose works were displayed in the three- way. Dan Burns, who was graduated this spring with an art minor, is shown here with some of his works. Art Festival 104 Finis Graduation on the Mall involved Rocky ' s largest senior class in May of 1961 .
