Overlooking Billings and the Yellowstone Valley The Midland Empire Surrounding Billings, the metropolis of eastern Montana, is a great and bounteous realm known as the Midland Empire. Within this great three-hundred-mile circle is a wealth of in- dustry, scenic beauty, natural resources, and historical tradition that can scarcely be excelled in any like area in America. Within its circumference to the southwest is the Yellowstone National Park, where the whole world pilgrimages, and plays, and wonders. Bounding the Park is another region abounding in hot springs, many of which have been developed as resorts. From Bozeman to Miles City is a fertile and productive agri- cultural valley and stock raising district. Columbus is the largest wool shipping point in the country, and also raises the world's champion wheat. From Columbus to Billings is the garden spot .i. Page Fourteen

North of Billings at Roundup. south at Red Lodge, and east at Colstrip, are coal fields of inestimable size. Westward on the West Fork of the Stillwater is the largest and only continuous vein of chromite ore now known. In a belt extending from Bee- hive, Montana, to Cook City, it is estimated that there exists the greatest variety of minerals possessed by any similar sized region in the world.
