Mr. Dudley Whitley Coach, World History. Like most World History students, Carolyn Jenkins has found that the course requires much research. Social S1fua'z'es The varied curriculum of the Social Studies De- partment enables the student to face the future with a knowledge of the past. Courses in world history and American history give the student a better understanding of his heritage. Government teaches him the responsibilities of American citi- zenship. The economics pupil learns to apply eco- nomic principles to his own life. Psychology helps the student to understand himself and those around him. ln addition to these regular courses, advanced television classes in world history and American history help sophomores and juniors to understand the past in terms of the problems of today. Besides learning the language, students study the culture of the people who speak it. Latin ll students study the great Roman Empire by reading Latin stories and Caesar's Gallic Wars. With the increased emphasis on the spoken lan- guage, the French and Spanish students of Senior High find the language laboratory an invaluable asset. Self-conscious students may feel at ease with their teacher in the lab, while advanced students may use its facilities to develop their abilities more rapidly. 23

lzysical a'ucatz'0n A sound mind in a sound body is the goal of our Physical Education Department. Partici- pation in highly competitive sports teaches young athletes the importance of cooperation and good sportsmanship. Vigorous exercises and drills help mold young men and women into top physical form. Physical Education is a required course for all seniors, but many sophomores and juniors take it as an elective.
