He ex- celled in sports and was slated to be on the starting football line up. He was a diligent worker for his church and a leader in hisiscout work. He was out- standing in his school work and popular with his school mates. Today he is out of his iron lung and free from all danger, but he still shows the fighting spirit that we all admire and respect. Because he is first and foremost in our heartsjwe, the staff of the 1953 Hi-Noc-Ar, do humbly dedicate this, our an- nual, to our friend, George Newby.. ' ,f '-'75 'QP Q Um 74eme Due to the ever increasing popularity of the motion picture industry, we have chosen this subject for the theme of our 1953 Hi-Noc-Ar. We believe than the movies tend to widen our interests, broaden our knowledge and stir our emotions. They enable us to travel the world over, thereby bringing the people of the world closer together and creating better understanding and world fellow- ship. They make us laugh, and they make us cry-or they make us feel warm and good inside by letting us become better acquainted with the trials and tribula- tions of our own neighbors. 'The movies stimulate our interests in the cultural field and fill us with historical facts and legends. They give us a visible insight to the news and are truly the eyes and ears of the world. This annual attempts to give you a true picture of the events and happen- ings of our beloved R.M.H.S. Sonny and Buck get a thrill. jobmzy Mack Jhowf Tommy bow. Through standing com- mittees and special projects, it plans and carries out activities for school improvement. While carrying out these activities, it provides an opportunity for student leadership and fel- lowship and it promotes democratic citizenship. The Student Organization is divided into three divisions with each division having its own complete organization. Division One is the General Organization with its four officers, its ten major or stand- ing committees, and its assembly of representatives from the homerooms. Division Two is the Class Organization. No mat- ter where you find him helll be talking, and usually about what a girl-killer he is. Seriously, Donald is smart and well liked by everyone. He wants to be a dentist and plans to go to Carolina to con- tinue his education. His favorite food is oysters and you're more likely to find him riding in his Bel Air. Alice Barnes, Diehl for short, is just the kind of girl you like to have around if the-re's any work to be done. Shes dependable, likeable and fun-loving, but in a dignified sort of way. Diehl is very talented and wants to be a Concert pianist. She plans on going to Sweet Briar next year where we know she'll be a definite asset. Fried shrimp and coffee are her favorite foods and her mark of distinction is her little car-Doodlebug. jimmy Daughtridge is a good all round fellow, excelling in sports of all kinds. Head, as everyone calls him, has that certain something that makes the girls swoon. He is most enthusiastic in every- thing he undertakes and his activities are many and varied. Head has chosen XY'ake Forest to further his education and plans on majoring in business administration. Heads weakness, besides girls, that is, is steak. Sylvia not only has looks. but wit, personality and a friendly nature. She enjoys playing tennis and her favorite foods are Hot Dogs and Hamburgers. She plans to grace YV. C. with her presence with the teaching profession as her goal. Edwina Moore is the luckiest of us all-she's mar- ried! Edwina has always been a scholar, but you'cl never know it just talking to her. Shes the kind of person who always keeps her friends in stitches with her dry wit, Shes very active in athletics of all kinds and a very good sport. Edwina plans to be a beautician and has already partially com- pleted her training. is .2 Q1 V Q l ' . lx 1 ini: I ' lc Donald Edwards is sometimes called Don Newku because of his basketball ability. He is a steady ball player and a real hustler. Donald is rather quiet in class and a diligent worker. Hes very interested in his scout work and has many outside activities, one of which is delivering laundry. Donald has not yet decided what he wants to be and its a toss up between Wfake Forest and Duke as to where hell attend college. ,- lf! Edward Hallford, known to most people as Sonny, is quite original and artistic. His ability comes in handy real often when theres a play to be written or a sketch to be drawn. His pres- ence of mind and good common sense endear him to his teachers and his ready wit and pleasing personality endear him to his many friends. Ham sandwiches are his favorite food. The medical profession has called Sonny and he plans to at- tend Carolina. , bf fda. Sheila Robbins is known throughout high school for her versatility and display of good sports- manship. Because of her dependability and fun loving nature, she has acquired honors for her- self and her school. VUe can think of no one more suited for a career as physical therapist than she, because she seems most happy when serving others. In Sheila we present a typical high school girl at her best! He plans to join many of his friends at Carolina next year but so far he hasn't decided what his life work will be. His favorite dishes are most anything with a Greek touch' fflleiljrfiyl 47 Mary Wfilkinson is one of the most outstanding citizens of our town. She is very active in every phase of school activity and a pillar of her church. Mary is a straight A student and the life of every party. She is blessed with a beautiful voice but she sometimes murders songs by pulling her Minnie Pearl act. Mary is friendly, easy going, capable and dependable. She loves to eat so well, she doesn't know what is best. She could easily excel in any field, but as of now hasn't decided what she wants to do or where she wants to go-but it might be W.C. Ben Williams is quiet and reserved with a pleas- ing manner that appeals to everyone. He is very outstanding in his church work, filling in often at the pulpit. This experience has given him poise and clarity of speaking which will help him towards his career in the ministry. To help prepare him for this chosen work Ben has selected Davidson.
