The radio that awakens us in the morning, the humming of the bus driver, the whist- ling grocery boy all form a symphony of sound that serves as an accompan- iment to life. Being' aware of this fact, we, the staff of the 1951 Hi-Noc-Ar. have endeavored to show the important place music plays in our school hours. For with the echoes from the band room, the lively tones of the choir and voices of the students - 810 strong' - lifted in assembly, R.M.H.S. truly has 'Music In The Air'. They had attained their highest goal. The Fall oflicers did a fine job in selling Christmas cards and turned the job over to the Spring officers with the pot full. The main job of the Spring officers is to plan the graduation ceremonies, and at the printing of this annual were going about the job with a new found zest. As for the others, they were looking into the future which might bring college, good jobs, or - the arm- ed forces. These officers worked very hard on this and with the cooperation of the whole class sold more magazines than any other class in the history of the school. Having done a wonderful job, the Fall Gfficers turned the reigns over to the new Spring officers. They then began planning the Junior-Senior, the main social event of the school year. Much effort was put into this, and the results were that it turned out to be one of the best in many a year and the 1951 Junior- Senior will remain in a lot of peoples minds for a long time. All in all, it was a pretty wonderful year. JUNIOR CLASS OFFICEVQS Spring Term Lloyd Thrower lv1il'1'-Pi'l'Sft16'Ilf Gene Williams Shirley Robbins Sef'1'e'fr11'y C. C. This is the big money making project of the Sophomore Class. The money made from this was used to pay all their bills, finance their annual spring hop, and to send different things to cheer George Newby, a member of their class stricken with Polio at the first of the year. The Sophomores sponsored a War Child from Poland. Each class member gave one dollar for this. One accomplishment is that they have gone further in parliamentary proceedure than any other class. They have a parliamentarian elected as a regular class officer. Their annual spring dance, a combination square and round dance, highlighted the second semester. gt. Through standing committees and special pro- jects, it plans and carries out activities for school improvement. While carry- ing out these activities, it provides an opportunity for student leadership and fellowship and it promotes democratic citizenship. The Student Organi- zation is divided into three divisions with each division having its own com- plete organization. Division One is the General Organization with its four officers. its ten major or standing committees, and its assembly of representatives from the home- rooms. Division Two is the Class Organization. For each of the four groups - fresh- man, sophomore, junior, and senior - there is an organization consisting of four officers, an advisor, and the necessary committees - all from the home- rooms comprising the group. Division Three is the Homeroom Organization with its four officers, the homeroom teacher, and the desired committees. Freshmen ...... Sophomore-S . . . Juniors ....... Sensors .-. f. ?4l -- ,... Having its origin in 1920, The Hi-Noc-Ar has been pub- lished every year since then, except for a brief period in the early thirties. Over the past years the Hi-Noc-Ar has contributed much to our en- joyment of school life. The staff is composed of the Editor-in-Chief, Business Manager, Advertising Manager, Circu- lation Manager and ten or twelve regular staff members. All of the staff are seniors with the ex- ception of six juniors who are elected and trained by the staff to take the reins for the coming year. As for the 1951 staif, there are eighteen mem- bers plus two advisors, Miss Alma Murchison and Mr. C. E. Privott. Without the constant help and interest of these two, the publication of this an- nual would be impossible. Blanche was elected from girls representing nearly every city or town in the Tar Heel State. After only a day at Womens' College, she was known all over the dormitory because of her winning smile and good nature. It didn't take too much cam- paigning for Blanche, because her dependa- bility and ability spoke for itself and every- one knew that a finer girl couldn't be found for that important office. She proved herself an efficient and able governor. of this past year was the hospitalization of George Newby, fullback of our Varsity squad. George was taken to Duke hospital the night before his first varsity game in September and after having his case diagnosed as polio was placed in an iron lung. George was elected president of his Fresh- man class and was the first scout in the East- ern Carolina Council to receive the God and Country award for service to his church. He represented his troop at the National Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge. George is now busy winning the battle against polio. All his friends wish him well!
