On August 25, 438 stu dents and 34 teachers began a year filled with spirit Welcome to the Jun- gle! Face Ss were ap- palled as they first en- tered the hall and witnessed the multiple shades of green. After the initial shock, stu- dents were pleased to fi- nally have ‘‘clean”’ lock- ers Another major change was the addi- tion of more teachers which meant more class offerings and fewer stu- dents in each class. Eve- ryone has to work harder now — more homework. Most stu- dents, however, do their homework at school just before it is due. Some students took advantage of the dual credit courses and are enrolled in classes for which they will receive high school as well as college credit. WCC of- fered a computer class at our school. Students teachers, and the public took advantage of this opportunity. Two stu- dents travel to WCC to take calculus Customers needed at Se- nior Class Concession. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! JONA THAN WILLIAMS KEVIN HARLESS BRIAN LAWSON AND PAT WHITE EDWARD GIBSON MATTHEW KIDD It seems there were Senior faces everywhere as the largest Senior Class ever (50) assem hled in Mr. Bird's homeroom. Senior boys said good-bye to their lassmale as a new homeroom was created. Faces change as one class leaves and another begins and the tingles of excitement were all new for the people experi encing high school for the first time Megabite — many students found new and frustrating friends in the computers as 27 stu dents signed up for word processing Fashions — or rather the length of women’s skirts were often the topic of conversation and the adventure of avoiding a face to face meeting with Mrs Borum was created The band returns! The first performance of the six member band was at the annual Hal- loween Carnival and they sounded great. The Halloween Carnival class competition to raise the most money took an unusual turn as Jason Lambert, a tenth grader, was drafted just minutes before the pro- cession into the gym as an escort for Amy Brad- shaw, an eighth grader And, they were crowned King and Queen What have you been doing with your alumi- Melinda, Gerry, mum cans? The newly and David organized Aluminum Theatre sells aluminum David Gibson cans as a money mak- and ing project. Also, the Aluminum Theatre en- tertained the student body with three plays Elementary students welcomed the return of elementary physical ed- ucation NO SCHOOL To.- DAY in Bland County was heard three times : Ye . during the month of De- ’ f cember because of . i, ; snow. Those welcome words vanished in the month of January, how- ever, as temperatures soared into the seven- ties and the January thaw lasted most of the month. Students have been preparing for MACC competition in the fields of Math, Science, English, Social Studies and All Around. This is our first venture in ac- ademic competition among schools in our area. A delegation of stu- dents attended the Model U.N. at Graham High School. A simula- tion of countries meet- ing to attempt to solve the world’s problems was experienced by those in attendance Julie Hamilton Rhonda, Paula, and Angie Kevin Harless Getting Physical-ly Fit Eppie, Crystal, Paula, Jodie, Rhonda, Mike and Carrie. Karen Bowling Jason Lambert and Lenore Puckett First Grade King and Queen Mike Conley Taking it like a man, Mr. Bowen. Kelli Cruey Pam Kirk i Danny Pruett and Randy Wright Amy Bradshaw and Jason Lambert Junior English Class The Lunch Crew Strange faces have recently been seen in our hall. Fifteen ap- plicants want to be Superintendent of Bland County Schools and have been touring the county schools Another significant event includes apply- ing for a Literary Loan which will result in a facelift in our school as well as the planned addition of several classrooms. Students have expe- rienced many enjoya- ble activities includ- ing celebrating friends’ birthdays, pep rallies, basketball games, special assem- blies (Tony Blanken- ship playing the fid- dle), goofing off, lunch, and detention (or at least some peo- ple seem to enjoy it because they are al- ways in detention). When asked, “What will you re- member about this school year? ’ most students were at a loss for words or just said simply — “nothing.” As the yearbook goes to press, we still look forward to many rewarding experi- ences in this school year including the Beta Convention, Se- nior trip, Prom, Beau- ty Contest and many many other activities. Indeed our faces are going places.
