Dedication The students know where he stands — he makes promises he can and does keep. He is personable and highly visible as his presence is felt during the chang- ing of classes and during lunch break. As an ap- proachable and concerned individual in the present and future well being of the students, he opens his door for the discussion of any problem — large or small. Quick to act to the immediacy of any situation, he has the ability to anticipate trouble” and trouble situa- tions. ” He is benevolent to students, often loaning them lunch money, transporting sick students, or catering to their every need. This energetic and unselfish in- dividual provides many school activities for the students' enjoyment. Furthermore, he is an avid sup- porter of all Rocky Gap School athletic teams and pro- udly watches as teams gain respect for their school. He has gained the respect of all for his integrity. Perhaps his major contribution to the education of the students at Rocky Gap Combined School is his strong advocacy of the need for a disciplined student body as the appropriate atmosphere for learning. We. the 1983 yearbook staff, proudly dedicate this edition of the ROGAHI to Mr. Jack G. Kaylor, Prin- cipal of Rocky Gap Combined School. A native of Keokee, Virginia, Mr. Kaylor graduated from Appalachia, VA, High School He served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in April, 1946. He then enrolled at East Tennessee Slate University and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies and English. Mr. Kaylor has devoted his working life to the education of youth. His teaching career began in 1950 as an English teacher at Wise High School. He later served as Principal of Dunbar, VA, Elementary School and as an English teacher at War, WV, Junior High School. In 1954 he became Distributive Education Coordinator and Adult Instructor at George Wythe High School, Wytheville, VA. In I960 he became Assistant Principal of George Wythe High School, and within four years he became that school's Principal, serving until 1967, when he became Principal of Rocky Gap Combined School, where he has remained for the past eighteen years. He has also been a part-time lecturer I instructor at Wytheville Community College. Between 1950 and 1963 he spent much time in the classroom as a student studying at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA: The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA: and VP1 and SU in Blacksburg, VA, where he earned a Master of Education Degree in School Administration and Psychology in 1963. He is Past President of the Wythe County Kiwanis Club, Honorary Life Member of the Distributive Education Clubs of America, Honorary member of the Future Farmers of America and a member of the former Wytheville Men's Choir His hobbies include working with wood, land- scaping, music and playing the guitar. His wife is the former Jeanette Weiss from Big Slone Gap, VA, and they have one daughter, Lisa, who is a Registered Nurse. 4 Mr. Jack G. Kaylor, Principal

Special Recognition Congratulations Alice The ROGAHI proudly recognizes the illustrious basketball career of Alice Neal. In her five years at Rocky Gap High School, she has compiled more accolades and awards than any previous graduate and has won recognition for herself and our school all across the state and nation. Alice scored 2,288 points I during her high school career) which is the Virginia High School League Scoring Record for Women's Basketball. She broke the state record of 2,207 points held by Meg Turner of Wylheville on October 25, 1984, in the Rocky Gap gym during a game with Floyd County. The 2,000th point was scored on October 11, 1984, in a game at Fries High School. The Bland County scoring record, previously held by Richard Havens, fell on October 2, 1984, in a game at Bland High School with the scoring of 1,912 points. The Rocky Gap High School record, previously held by Tommy Musick. fell on September 20, 1984, in a game at Ml. Rogers with the scoring of 1,758 points.
