THE ROGAHl STAFF PRESENTS FOOTPRINTS ON THE SANDS OF TIME 1776-1976 BICENTENNIAL MEMORIES ROCKY GAP HIGH SCHOOL Roc ky G«p. V«. 24366 LEESA WILLIAMS. EDITOR AMERICA'S A COUNTRY ON THE MOVE Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime. And, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sand of time, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow 2 200TH BIRTHDAY A TIME FOR RE-DEDICATION The first flag of the United States of America, designed by George Washington to represent the equality, purity, and courage of the original thirteen colonies, was made by Betsy Ross, The United States of America was established as a free and independent nation on July 4, 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was adopted and signed by Congress. Perhaps no other single event in history made as great an impact on our destiny as this one. This single event was the foremnner of all the privileges and rights we have come to expect as American citizens--the right to free speech and free press, the right to assemble and practice one's own religious beliefs and -- the right to an education. This Bicentennial Year affords a time for us to reflect, a time to recall the courageous action of those few who declared before the world their dedication to a new standard, a standard for mankind's freedom. Also, this special year affords a time to look forward-- a time to plan and to assume individual responsibility to make an even greater America. On this, the 200th Anniversary of the United States, we, the Yearbook Staff, proudly salute the brave men and women who fought for this nation’s independence and the right to freedom of choice. 3 BLAND COUNTY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION SCHOOL BOARD Robert Bane.
