We hope that it will help to make our high school years long remembered as our most pleasant and enjoyable days at Rocky Gap High School. The staff thanks you for your co-operation and hopes it has been successful in obtaining and pre- senting an accurate account of your school years, therefore we submit the 1959 Rogahi , and trust it meets with your approval. They also take part in the forestry judging contest, competing with three other schools. Each boy taking agriculture is automatic - ally a member of the FFA. Some of the activities the club sponsors during the year are: Father-Son Banquet, Chicken Barbecue, FFA Chapter Sweetheart, take part in the Federation Basketball Tourna- ment, and hold several joint meetings with the FHA girls. Home Economics plays a very important part in any girls life. Mrs. Jean Sands, Home Economics Instructor, teaches the students sewing, cooking, and the impor- tance of housekeeping. Marriage, Home Beautification, and Christmas decorating are also discussed. Some of the activities sponsored by the club are: Mother-Daugh- ter Banquet, and fixing a basket for a needy family in the community. Joint meetings are held with the FFA and all members are encouraged to attend camp during the sum- mer. ALL OF f t 4 4 cs r ■■■■■ DEDICATION In honor of one whose ability as an instructor is acknow- ledged, whose gentleness of manner is unvarying, whose readiness to serve meets the needs of the day, whose nobility of character, perception of values, and devotion to service are a glowing example of the good life, whose friendliness is an open illustration to student life, we, the student body holds it a high privilege in dedicating the Nineteen Fifty-Nine Rogahi to Mr. Mahlon K. Representatives and officers are elected by the student body in an election held In Spring. Each candidate running for an office makes campaign speeches, has campaign managers, and distributes posters throughout the school. Some of the duties of the Student Council are setting up rules for various activities, inflicting punishment for infringement of certain regulations, and conducting school elections. Members joining must be a Senior, Junior, or Sophomore and must maintain a B average throughout the school year. Some of the duties of our club this year are: To care for the American Flag; to assist the students, teachers, and Principal when called upon; to help keep an attractive bulletin board, and to help worthy welfare drives. The club is composed of students who have earned letters by required participation in basketball, baseball, or as cheerleaders. 37 SCA DISTRICT MEETING This year the annual Clinch Valley District SCA Meeting was held at Rocky Gap High School with 140 representatives attending from other schools. NEW YEARS AT THE GRABTREES' After playing the Ceres team twice and losing both games, the R. G. H. S. Basketball teams are reviving their sagging spirits at the home of Mr. Earle Crabtree and his sister, Miss Ruth Crabtree, who were kind enough to in- vite them there for some refreshments and music. JUNIOR-SENIOR BANQUET From the beginning of the year, each Junior and Senior looks forward to the Junior, Senior Banquet. This is the time when girls are decked out in party dresses, high heels, and jewelry. Of course the boys dress in their best clothes. 4-H DOLL QUEEN For the first time a Doll Queen was elected by the 4-H Club here at Rocky Gap. ARNOLD CLARK and JERRY FRENCH are owners of the Punkin Center Drive-In Theater starring cowpuncher BUCKERLY PEYTON in a rip-roaring western. PATTY MILLS is known as the Senator’s daughter-in-law and lives in a ranch type house on a South Sea Island. CONNIE SLUSS is in Congress debating on the jukebox issue. CALVIN WEDDLE, graduate from East Tennessee State, is a mechanic at Cape Ca- naveral. PRESTON WILLIAMS is in the Yukon chasing BOBBY CONLEY for stealing the million dollar painting by HUBERT SPENCE. Doctor SAFORD BLANKENSHIP is head of the Army Hospital at Bastian. JOYCE HALL is a famous model for the Cinderella line of clothing designed by HARRY MOREHEAD. SHIRLEY BRUCE is the maid for NANCY HOOSIER, the wife of a great basketball player. JIMMY GIBSON, employed at Sands' Real Estate Bureau, is trying to find a way to fit eight children in a little red sportscar. ELIZABETH WILLIAMS is teaching history at R. G. H.
