CLASS HISTORY In September, 1949, thirty-six Freshmen started on their high school journey, but our happiness turned to sadness when we found that every- one looked down on us as The awful Freshmen. We were not familiar with the daily routine of lessons. Wonder if Charles Hare and Billy Shrader remember the many times that they transferred Mr. Mauldin's thoughts from Civics to Army life. During this year we were unfortunate in losing Margaret Gunter. Douglas Hancock, Donnie Hart, Oakie Starling, Curtis Lester, Ruby Owens and Walter Sarver. With eight of our first year members missing we decided to carry the burden alone. During our Sophomore year our Biology teacher taught us the art of pickling snakes and disecting frogs. The girls felt highly honored to be able to serve at the Junior and Senior Banquet. It was at the end of our last semester that Lois French Burton decided that she had gained enough knowledge to become a housewife. In our Junior year we decided that we needed dignity and distinction to distinguish us from those Sophomores and Freshmen. We received our class rings in January of our Junior year. Several received engagement rings, and class pins. We lost Lorraine Conley, Yvonne Bradshaw and Betty Lawson in our Junior year. After our Junior year, we carried the name of'The Dignified Seniors. As our Senior class stands now, we have two girls who have chosen themselves husbands. We were very sorry to lose one of our senior girls, Susie Smith. We now have nine boys and eleven girls. Although we have had many hardships to endure, we will have to ad- mit that probably some of the happiest days of our lives were those that we spent with our classmates at Rocky Gap High School. Now as we face the future, we do not know what it holds in store for each of us. Though we may say good-bye to our classmates, our thoughts will always be with them in hopes that everything they endeavor to do may be crowned with success.
