U'Donnell The Rohistat has now completed thirty- seven years of bringing news, features, jokes and personalities to the students, teachers, and par- ents of the Rockwood Area. During the past school year, the main pur- pose of the Rohistat-to enable students to bring out in the Open their talents to write-was perfectly carried out. Members of the staff and reporters alike were sent on assigmnents that helped them meet many new people, in and out of school. This year there were thirty-one reporters and thirteen members on the staff. Some of the jobs that were split up among them are: typing. copy-reading, making headlines and proof reading. In the previous years, the Rohistat has be- come a member of the Quill and Scroll. an hon- orary society for high school journalists, and the Columbia Press Association. Top honors went to the Rohistat at the Pitt Conference in 1955 and 1956. The Rohistat is issued free of charge to the students, and is financed by the Rockwood joint lligh School Roard of Directors and by advertisers. Next year a new staff will carry on the work of the Rohistat. Its task will be to make the Rohistat a more outstanding paper for the stu- dents of the Rockwood joint High School. The staff has tried to recapture, as honestly and dramatically as possible, the 1958-59 school year and present its part in your life in the Main- liner. When finished, the yearbook represents a very real investment and serves as a memory book of one of the best and happiest periods of our lives. By recapturing the principal events of our high school days, it holds lasting impres- sions ot the friends We have made. Class Prophecy lust the other day, June 10, I received a post card in the mail requesting that I, and my family, be present at Trent Park on Sunday, Iune 16, 1969, at 12:00 o'clock P.M. for a re- union of the Class of ,59. I was excited about going because I hadnit seen all of my fifty-nine classmates since the time I graduated from Rockwood Ioint High School in 1959. It doesnit seem possible that 10 years have gone by so quickly. It just seems as though yesterday we were trampling into our homerooms greeting each other or throwing friendly insults to one another. Today is the day! Today my family and I are going to Trent Park. After we came home from church, I got our picnic lunch ready for the reunion. Finally we were on our way. I thought I would be the first one there- as I left at 11:00-but when I arrived, I was surprised to see Shirley Goller. After we said our hellos,v Shirley said she has been teaching at Rockwood for six years and enjoys her job very much. While we were 'talking about the good old school days, Virginia Knopsnyder and Carole Whipkey arrived and joined in the conversation. Both Carole and Virginia are air-line stew- ardesses for P.A.A., which now uses Jet Pas- senger Planes. They said their pilot is Robert Hoover. Bob couldn't come today, because he had to make a flight to Europe for Dick Harah, another classmate of mine. Dick is a million- aire, and owns the Pan American Airlines. He also owns the Harah Hospital in Pittsburgh. Heather Gerhard works here as an X-ray Tech- nologist, and Donna Fetters is a medical sec- retary. Sally Miller and Charmaine Critchfield are nurses at the hospital. They are all very happy with their jobs, but I was sad to hear that they couldn't come today. It is now 12:00 o'clock and I decided to set my food on the table. Soon I heard a big truck coming. Lester Weyand is driving, and Richard Queer and Kenneth Judy are with him. All three are truck drivers for the tri-state area. Be- hind them, Paul Wiltrout, Donald Hay, and Merle Carolus, who are mechanics, enter the park merrily. Who is getting out of the car beside them? As they come closer, I see it is Rita Hay, the famous clothes designer, and Norma Jean Cary, who fulfilled her ambition to become a police- woman. Look who is here! It is the ashortyv of the class, Charles Engleka, who measures a neat 6' 6 . He is a professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics. From Charles, I learn that T olliver Harrill, is manager of the textile in- dustry in Boston, and Roger Beachy is now a forester, Pat Livengood and Patti Pletcher, who both are private secretaries for a big corpora- tion, could not come. We now start to eat. The toastmistress, Marian Laskoski, our former senior class presi- dent and who is now a Commercial teacher, says the grace. Her sister, Margaret, is a home- maker-a very good one, too. She is sitting be- side Louise Ansell and Louise Peck, telephone operators for the Bell Telephone Company, and they are making out very well in that field. Across from them, Roger Romesberg is sitting. Roger is top Engineer and the man- ager of a big engineering concern. Lee Ansell, who is sitting next to Roger, is a carpenter. He has been building skyscrapers, churches, and schools for six years. His best friend and class- mate, john Berkey, could not come today, be- Class Prophecy cause he is in the Air Force and is stationed across the Atlantic. Harold Kreger also joined the Air Force when he graduated and has made a career of it. Clair Lyons is just arriving. He is driving his Ford Test Truck. Clair has been working for the Ford Company since 1960. Harold Ben- ford is in the truck with him. He is a mechanic for the Ford Company. Clair informed us that Mary Jane King, Marlene Latuch, Peggy Nick- low, Glenda Keefer, Phyllis Stahl, and Mary June Lyons are all secretaries of the company. They will arrive later in the afternoon. As I begin eating, someone asks for the salt. There before me is Karen Lyons, the famous Free Lance Commercial Artist. Karen said while she was on her last assignment in Asia, she talked with Dorothy Ansell. Dorothy is a traveling missionary. I hand Karen the salt and as I do I see Carol Reeves. She tells me she is the secretary at her husbands shoe factory in Cleveland, Ohio, and Mary Schrader does the bookkeeping and filing at the factory. Joyce Anderson, sitting beside Carol, is a very effi- cient worker in the factory. All of the food is very good. I wonder who made this pineapple salad lim eating. Donna Sterner, who is sitting beside me, tells me that Delbert Sechler brought it from his home. He is an art teacher at the Rockwood Joint High School where Donna teaches music. Our con- versation is interrupted by a clear soft spoken voice. I look up to see none other than Wendell Hileman, the famous radio announcer and engi- neer for Pittsburgh, KQV. He has had this job for five years. Wendell is announcing that there are 150 present at the reunion, and he hopes that by the end of the afternoon more will be present. On one of Wendell's shows Ben Leer made a campaign speech for President of the United States. After a wonderful picnic, everyone gets in- to different groups to discuss their problems. The farmers are talking to Larry Ream, the county agent in agriculture, about their milk cows. The farmers are John King, George Hay, and Clarence Saylor. Now we will leave the farmers to their dis- cussion and go to another group. Here are many secretaries. Among them are Nancy Metheney and Dorothy Heining. They are secretaries for the President in Washington, D. C. I hear giggling and laughing children. I look over and see Gene Countryman and Larry Everhart telling all the children funny jokes that they heard in the Navy. Both Larry and Gene are making a career in the Navy. Now I will join the group that I am inter- ested in-Nurses. Here I find Juanita Ringer, Juanita Pritts, and Jean Ringer, talking about their children. Juanita Ringer is the head nurse in the Somerset Community Hospital in Somer- set, and Juanita Pritts, Jean, and myself are nurses in the same hospital. It seemed as if we had only talked for about fifteen minutes, but when I looked at my watch, the time was 4:45 P.M. Golly, the time flew! I decided that I had better leave because I go on duty at 7:00 P.M. When I had finished saying good-byen to my former classmates, I gathered up all my food and called my family together. At last we were on our way, leaving my classmates be- hind. It was a wonderful day, just seeing the faces of my classmates again, but I am glad I was a part of the memorable occasion.
