C. one aftera noon our thoughts wandered back to Rockwell's graduating class of '43----our graduating class. We wondered where our friends were, and what they were doings By chance we stopped before a door. A sign above it read Madame Luza. Knows All, Sees All, Tells All. We went in and asked her to tell us about our Class of '43. This, in her own words, is the information given us. In an outstanding night club in New York I see a popular debutante, Irma Setzer, dining with her favorite escort, Ensign Robert Morgan of the United States Navy. Sweet music---Oh yes; that is being played by John Yorke Wagoner's well known orchestra. The spot light is now on the star en tertainer, J. V. Earnhardt, a blues singer. The World Series has just ended in Brooklyn, and Ray Carter and Clyde Brown, stars of the winning team, are being entertained at a formal dinner ‘by Ethel Lyerly and Billie Kluttz, Other important couples present are: Mary Heliig (Powers model) and Claude Harwood (Wall Street Broker), Susie Barger (hat designer) and Raymond E. Morgan (bank president), Sara Boger (author) and Herman Morgan (Professor of English at Yale University). Back in Rockwell I see Mildred Davis settled down to a quiet family life with Dr William Lombard, Chief of Staff at the Rockwell Memorial Hos- pital. Coming down the corridor I see a beautiful nurse.---Why that's Fran- ces Sides! No wonder it takes the patients so long to recover at the Roek— well Memorial Hospital, At Rockwell High School I see Naomi Brown, French teacher; Rachel Goodman, head of the commercial department; Mary Miller, chemistry teacher; and Coach Raney Troutman all hard at work. In lower Rockwell, the part that was formerly Gold Hill, I see Jimmie Kirk about to make a campaign speech in behalf of Culp Trent, who is running for Governor of the State of North Carolina. In the crowd I see Senator Hubert Agner and a member of the House of Representatives, J. W. Hampton. In Salisbury I see Thelma Holshouser, editor of the Salisbury Evening Post, and Beatrice Morgan and Lucille Grant as star reporters, In Charlotte, North Carolina, I see a prominent business man, Robert Kluttz, dictating a letter to his blonde secretary, Irene Goodman, At a roadside restaurant near Raleigh, North Carolina a car stops and two attractive carhops dressed in white step up. They are none other than Bernice Funderburke and Thelma Rattz. Onn wactOIN Ca ss The shortage of men has definitely had its effect on the female mem- bers of the Class of '43. In an Old Maids Home somewhere in Piedmont Care- lina I find Lorene Hoffner and Marian Barton, along with Carrie Trexler, who owns and operates the home. The most popular literature read there is the famous book, ‘How to Win a Husband!, written by Sarah Catherine Peeler, a former resident. Her book has been highly beneficial to herself as well as to others. In a quiet village in-- -well, let's keep it quiet---I see Robert Arey and Beatrice Bassinger settled down in a little white house with green shut- ters, The paperboy, Kinard Fisher, is approaching. The newspaper headlines read, 'Elsie Cheek and Claude Beaver Wed', In Florida I see Hazel Bost and Louise Fisher, co-owners of a large resort. Two very successful business girls. The scene now changes to Hollywood, California, It seems that there is a movie star or two from every senior class. The Class of '43 is well represented by a lovely Mary Elizabeth Trexler and the most popular boy of the class, Hugh Beaver. These two have really made headlines, They are now co-starring in the M. G. M. picture, 'Dearly Beloved’, In Chicago, Illinois, I see Rebecca Brown, proprietor of a dress shop. Her winning personality has helped her business a great deal, The Class of '43 is well represented in the Armed Forces too, In the Waacs I see Lorene Arey, Ruby Eller, and Lillian Cooper. In the Waves I see Inez Taylor and Mary Elizabeth Stirewalt, In the Spars I find Julia Fesperman, Louise Hedgecock and Evelyn Miller, In the Womens Marines I see Ruth Funderburke, Mary Lou Cranford and Bonnie Peeler, In the Army I recog- nize E, Raymond Morgan and Norman Frick. I see two fellows in the blue uni- form of the Navy. They are Bill Trexler and Clyde Barringer. In the Marine Corps I see Fred Morgan and Henry Ritchie, In the Ferry Command I find Betty Yost ferrying bombers from the United States to England. This includes everyone except Nell Lefler and Mary Etta Trexler, who are standing before Madame Luza. They now operate a U. S. O. Center located here in Washington. We left Madame Luza feeling very happy, because we realized that the Class of '43 was carrying on as nobly as it did way back in the days when we were still in high school. Kind words are the music of the world. They have a power which seems to be beyond natural causes, as if they were some angel's song which had lost its way and come on earth. F.
